1) cannot changt e the bootsequence or anything coz i am not able to goto into CMOS setup ..Get "CALLSCIDRV" error whenever try to access BIOS thru toshiba console(i have got toshiba satellite)

2)Downloaded a
software to reset the BIOS . problem is it cannot run in the protected mode and i am not aware of any way to boot into DOS in non protected mode via win XP.

3)pretty sure the boot sequence is HDD,CDROM. have DOS on bootable CD .so wanna run that BIOS resetter by booting from a bootable DOS CD ..

4) don't wanna format c: completely and hence wanna know the easiest way to make C:\ unbootable so that i can boot from the bootable DOS cd.

Thanks

Do you have a bootable floppy? You might be able to boot to the floppy first, rename ntoskrnl.exe under C:\windows\system32, then boot onto your CD.

Remove the HDD. BIOS will then look to the next available drive for an OS.

Sounds like he needs to get to a program on the HDD.

He needs to put that program on a bootable CD and run it from there.

you could always use a linux live cd (a la Knoppix and use fdisk to toggle the bootable tag on the HD, basically switching it off and saying the disc isn't bootable, but keeping the info there.

Then try booting with your dos boot disk. I think it should work, at any rate.

I don't think that would work, since the drive itself would still be bootable. XP would just complain that it could not find ntoskrnl.exe and give you a stop error.

Hold down the 'c' key when you power on your laptop. It will force it to boot to cd-rom regardless of the boot order.

Never knew that worked on PC's...That is how you get Macs to boot to CD.

Doesn't work on all PCs, but every Toshiba Satellite (which the poster has) has the option.

Hmm..I'll have to dig my old Toshiba sattelite out of a box and give that a try.
