Just need a free simple program to snip some mp3s, for example if I wanted to cut 1:06 to 3:20 of am mp3. I can never remember any good programs for this...think I found one not too long ago but I forgot the name of it...I probably have it installed somewhere - Thanks.

Is there a program that can do it without re-encoding? You know, kinda like the lossless JPEG operations plug-in for IRFANVIEW (crop, rotate, etc)?

Even if it isn't completely possible to do, it should be possible to add mark in/mark out times to the extensible tag info for compatible playback methods to interpret and incompatible ones to ignore and play normally. If you absolutely had to trim the space, you could always zero it out and it will still compress in a zip (most playback apps will skip the missing parts in corrupt MP3s).

I use MP3 Trackmaker 1.2, a freeware utility. Very simple, and usually works OK. Sometimes I have to try a few times, maybe trim an already trimmed file, or retry with the original. You play your MP3 in Winamp, pause it where you want a cut, press a button in Trackmaker to record your cut point, you can do it again if you want several cut points and finally press the execute button to create your segment MP3s, all with a name you choose. Been using it for a number of years.

Here's a lossless one I've used for a couple of years:
MP3 DirectCut

I would actually like to find an alternative with an easier interface, but many mp3 trimmers do not seem to clearly indicate whether they are lossy or lossless.

Is it reliable? I've been having problems cutting my MP3s where I want the cuts. MP3 Trackmaker 1.2 has a very nice intuitive interface, but very often it doesn't cut where I put the cuts.

I imagine that it has to cut at specific points to preserve the compression... kinda like a corrupt bit in a video will cause the subsequent frames to be useless until you get to a keyframe. This is kind of how I expected a lossless cutter to behave. It's still useful for trimming the excessive silence betreen primary and bonus tracks that share a track number after ripping a CD (like the last track on Jagged Little Pill or The Napoleon Dynamite Soundtrack).

As far as I can tell, yes. The problem I have with it is that you have to mark the cut point using the graphical interface and then review the mark by simultaneously looking at the waveform and listening to the song. Then I have to use the weird controls to tweak it, and sometimes it can take another half a minute if I happen to do something stupid like scroll away to the other end of the song by pressing the Home key or somnething. Not a bad tool, but not the *snip-snip* experience I'm still looking for.

If you guys don't mind paid (or semi/paid, there's a short length, free version), I also just ran across this: MPtrim Pro 2.13. Looks nice, like almost everything does nowadays, but who knows how it stands up to use.

I tried it out yesterday and it was almost spot on its cut. It was a bit off, maybe a 1/2 second. Still way better than MP3 Trackmaker 1.2 which is often several minutes off! It's also very full featured, has tons of stuff going on. In contrast, MP3 Trackmaker 1.2 is wonderfully simple. Unfortunately, sometimes for reasons I can't guess, it makes its cuts in the wrong place. Until yesterday it was the only MP3 slicing utility I'd used. I'd just keep hacking with it, sometimes hacking off the first part, then the last, to get what I was after. I'm pretty sure it's lossless.

Hello everybody,
I am also looking for a good mp3 trimmer & cutter software for free.
Someone suggested me for Fx Splitter and Trimmer. Can anybody recommend me good one ?
How about the ones that have been already mentioned?
