I would phrase that differently.

Why don't they just tell people not to force Islam on others?

Sheer idiocy; I happen to have worked with a Muslim colleague and this was obviously a non issue. People that are not muslim will eat during ramadan and people that are muslim will not.... exactly where this will offend anyone involved is absolutely beyond me.

No, it is in Scotland. Different country and different health service (NHS Scotland is NOT the same organization as NHS England and is controlled by the Scottish parliament), AFAIK the NHS here in England has not issued any guidelines along these lines and most of the muslims in the UK live in England.

However, I do agree that it is idiocy; I can't see why a muslim would be offended by seeing someone else eating.

This is insane. It seems everyone is kowtowing to Islam in this day and age.

Engineer, your's is the real story in this thread. Scotland is whatever it is, but in the US NFW. I'd have ripped someone a new one, and if that didn't work then I'd have the papers all over it.

No; however they might tell you not to "celebrate" or discuss what you "gave up" for these times in order not to offend Muslims who do not believe.

Agreed, please post more details if possible, for example, did parents complain? Did the Muslim parents have any involvement?

BTW, death to the UK!

Religion should never be used as a means of employee control. To use their personal religious beliefs to segregate them only leads to the destruction of a company's spirit of common purpose.

There is a slippery slope involved with political correctness in the workplace. If management caters to one group, there will soon be others in line. Once the door is opened, there will be certain employees who will refuse to be intimidated. It is such a productivity killer, it makes you wonder why executives are so blind.

Update: I talked to my wife because I didn't remember all of the details. She said that this lasted a few weeks and enough people complained so the staff took the kids that had parents complain out in the hallway and let them have their snacks. So it lasted a few weeks and enough people complained that they did let them eat snacks. I remember being furious about it for a while but had forgot the total outcome. Still pissed that it took place at all.

By the way, this was about 5 to 6 years ago.

This is practically forcing non Muslims(as well as Muslims) to observe Ramadan. It is not freedom.

Now would the muslims not garner more grace by resisting an open temptation? This policy just seems to be condescending.

From your link...

Steyn argues that, contra the liberal cultural relativists, America should proclaim the obvious: we do have a better government, religion, and culture than our enemies, and we should spread America?s influence around the world?for our own sake as well as theirs.

Pot, meet kettle?

As a Muslim that observes Ramadan I say this has broken my BSometer, I don't have an issue at all during Holy Ramadan when my Chrisitan & Jewish friends / roommates bring home a big juicy burgers and eat them while I am right there right before them chatting up with them in the living room or kitchen.

TBH out of respect my friends after finding out it's Ramadan they don't usually eat in front of me but I assure them that it's a non-issue to me and either way is good, so sometimes they do eat in front of me and sometimes they don't out of respect of course not fear or intimidation. I have to say I had Catholic roommate once who observes Lent, we gave each other almost equal treatment during the Ramadan-Lent seasons out of respect to each others beliefs nothing else, but I wouldn't have minded it either had it been the other way around.

I will say this for the record, a good number of UK's Muslims are fanatics ought to have some sense slapped into their stubborn minds either that or have the UK ship them back from where they came from, if they don't like it then they just can back to their fcked up countries full of fellow fanatics like them.
If I were a Brit, I would surely protest this bigtime, though I wouldn't go BBQing pork chops in their faces as that is just feeding the flames IMO. However some not so logical ppl here consider this to be a smart thing to do I can't say I agree to that not even a bit, that would not only piss off the fanatic Muslims, but it might possibly win over some moderate Muslim support who might perceive persecution and hate-actions out of it, but that's just my opinion, but hey what do I know about it.

I appreciate your reply. It can't help Muslims when this kind of crap happens. I have no doubt the majority following Islam can manage quite well, but someone (probably not Muslim) got this stupid idea in their head that this would be a good thing. All it does is inflame. Tolerance is one thing, however this goes way beyond that. I think it's time the citizens stood up to their governments.

It can be argued that Scotland isn't even a unique country. It's like an offshoot of the UK. Scots are given UK passports, for instance.

Maybe it's some uptight tits in England who think it's nice to do and no muslim even asked for it!

You guys that have carefully read the article are right it wasn't a muslim who asked for this, here is the Scottsman who lobbied for this.

The guidance, which was sent round many organisations, was produced by Glasgow consultancy Meem, which advises on Muslim issues and counts the Scottish Parliament among its clients.

Na?eem Raza, a senior consultant with the firm[/COLOR], said he was thrilled that the health boards had formally adopted the guidance.

He added: ?The idea is to get faith in the workplace out in the open.

I would hire an ice-cream truck and keep using the speakers to call people: "Come and get your pork ribs, your pork rinds, get some tenderloins and ham, come and get your bacon strips and sausages!" and play some of that horrible muzak, perhaps the "Old MacDonald's..." tune all the time.
