i only care because there was a group of guys going to 2 bowl games this year...and 2 of them backed out because of money...they live together and do this twice a week. wouldnt you care if you had a "vacation" that was cancelled?
hahaha...so you're mad because these guys spent their money on taking their girlfriends out instead of spending time with you.

it isnt so much spending time with me as "you made a trip and planned it and i said i would attend with them" and then it got the big axe because they spend a good bit of money on going out weekly and bars/strip clubs. I have heard of 300-500 bills on good nights. That is ridiculous for a good time. It comes back to live life and such, but 300-500 for 1 night out at a bar and a few girls you don't know rubbing their t!ts in your face? sigh

People can do whatever they like with their money, but it's irritating to hear them whine about how broke they are when they spend $1000 a month on bars/restaurants/etc.

I have a friend who's been fighting liver cancer for about six months. Has 3 kids. We decided to collect some money for him so his kids could have a decent Christmas and pay some medical bills. So when I called one of our mutual friends to contribute, he tells me "Sorry, man, I can only give $20." I told him the rest of us are going in for about $200 each, he says, amazed, "How can they afford THAT?". He spends about $200 a WEEK at bars and restaurants.

that isnt his point. are you even comprehending this? his point is the same as mine. I just want people to realize how much money they are wasting and how saving money and then buying something large (a new LCD tv they want) is affordable. Instead, they p!ss and moan that it is too much money for them when they spend a large chunk of change each month.

Nevertheless, i am not going to say anything to him, i just think it is sh!tty on his part.

I like how he says "WE consider a waste of money to go out." I bet the lady is dying to get out more.

i get the point, but who are you to judge what he does? he's just not ready to grow up yet. maybe it's dumb, but he doesn't have the same priorities. i'm getting married and have a house while some of my friends are still living at home or renting and going out a lot. i used to too. i used to go out 4 nights a week. then things changed...

My girlfriend is kind of like that. She gets bored and she wants to "go out and do something". Eating out is usally what we end up doing. I'm trying to save some money now though so I've been try to cut down on this. There are many times she doesn't like to stay in and just watch tv though so out we go. Movies are pretty inexpensive, but that's almost the same as sitting and watching tv. Sometimes we'll hit a pool hall and for the two of us to play pool and get a couple drinks it's usually like 25 bucks which isn't too bad. It's the eating out that get's expensive. For two people at your standard Outback or Olive Garden it usually ens up being 40 bucks or so plus tip.
The other thing she likes is going to NYC. That gets real expensive. Round trip train ticket down is like 25 bucks a piece, and you always end up eating out down there which will cost at least 50 bucks usually 60. Then if you go anywhere like a museum or something there's another 20-30 bucks. Man oh man. I'm gonna have to get a second job! Girls are expensive!

What you don't understand or want to admit is that they would rather spend their money on their girlfriends, bars, and strip clubs then go to a bowl game with you. They made their choice, now you have to make yours. Do you want friends that flake out on commitments they make to you? Find some new friends that value going to a bowl game, and make plans with them, or just accept your current friends for who they are. Next time you make plans with them get a deposit toward the trip. Let them know if they back out, you are going to keep it.

Many will say that buying a big TV is an even bigger waste of money.

I'm sure you're just trying to make a joke, but the OP is probably being truthful. My wife, for example, would much rather save $30+ by not going to a restaurant so we can save extra money for something else. And it's not like we're struggling, either. We just don't have as much "fun" with consumables.

i would agree, but this is an example of something he wants, but does not have money for. What really gets me is that they will end up taking a loan out for the TV and keep the debt going. Personally, i hate knowing i owe someone money. I hate having debt, and that is why i struggle with getting a house. Nevertheless, i want a really nice house and i am trying to save towards it at the moment. he is living the college life with a real job so he has the money to support it. To each his own, but i dont want people backing out of plans. anyone can say he would rather spend his time elsewhere than with me and about 4 other guys at a bowl game, but you would be wrong. he is probably the biggest fan out of any of us and loves college football. but instead, i get to hear him b!tching about "no money to do XXXXXX"

even if i am not judging him, i am judging myself. shouldnt i be saving the money instead? you live life once, but i like how my life is going and i want to be able to buy what i want in the future as opposed to having bar memories for the next 20 years in a lesser house/furniture

Ya it makes sense. I know tons of people who have the money to eat out and drink every week, but could never put together a thousand bucks at one time to go on vacation.

You always pay the full bill for all of that, every time?

I was just being a smarta$$. Saving the green is a good idea. If you're feeling the urge to do something differant with dinner go spend $10 at the grocery store and whip us a big vat of homemade spaghetti. This way you have the benefit of leftovers for a few days, and the chicks dig a guy who cooks.
