eBay: Fear of feedback revenge

A seller i've been dealing with for the past couple of weeks definitely should have a neutral or negative feedback comment left from me, but it seems like there's a good chance i'd end up getting a revenge feedback of the same kind, even though i don't deserve one, as i paid right away and didn't do anything else out of the ordinary. But, people will be people. So i wonder if it would be worth it to give a negative in exchange for a negative. The guy has quite good feedback, somewhere around 300, 98% positives. I'm around 60 feedback on ebay, 100% positive.

Though if everyone feared feedback retaliation then there would hardly be any negatives/neutrals left, and that wouldn't be helpful to anyone looking at the other person's feedback, while considering to buy from the person.

So i think it is my duty as an ebayer to leave bad feedback for this seller, people should know the seller takes forever to ship things. The seller isn't really terrible, but worthy of a neg.

I think people also often give positive feedback just to maybe receive positive feedback in return themselves, even though they weren't necessarily pleased with the seller.

Discuss.

I have an idea, someone correct me if it wont work...

Wait until the day of the deadline to leave feedback, and leave it then. By the time he sees it, it will probably be too late for him to leave you any feedback.

Will that work?

Probably IF he doesn't see you have left him negative feedback. BUT if he hawks his ebay account then he will just leave you negative.

Leave feedback in the last few minutes

You can do as Amused said, but remember to take into account time zone of the eBay servers etc....

Honestly, people insulting others way of writing is retarded. Please, proofread all my posts I love it. Are we taking grades on posts or something?

The problem is, you are insulting the intelligence of another while making an elementary mistake by using the wrong word.

Were you not insulting someone else's intelligence while displaying a lack of your own, I would not have said a word.

At any rate, the irony was delicious.

I would agree with you somewhat, but im not exactly applying for the job of my life. All im doing is getting my point across, not making a resume (and seeing as how long it took you to come up with any reply, I can see what you do).

Unfortunately it's true that many people won't neg a bad seller out of fear that they'll get a retaliatory negative. But there would be a lot fewer bad sellers if people left appropriate feedback!

One way to solve this problem is to use two ebay accounts - one for buying, one for selling. Negs on an account where you only buy don't really hurt, allowing you to freely leave negs for bad sellers when appropriate.

And one or two negs per 100 feedback isn't the kiss of death. A lot of buyers will actually take time to read the feedback to see if there's reason for concern. If the neg is a retaliatory one, they'll discount that. You can always leave a follow-up if you need to clarify.

And if you need to be convinced that a bunch of negs doesn't really destroy your ebay record, look at the feedback for ebay seller bargainland-liquidation. He gets 1000 negs a month!

By the way, if the only problem with a transaction was the seller was slow, I'd leave a neutral.

Um, OK.

The lesson here is don't insult people's intelligence while looking like an ignorant ass yourself. Either learn it, or don't.

While it may be true that having a bunch of negatives doesnt entirely DESTROY your account, it certainly will cut major profits. For example, I was looking into adding some more to my DVD collection, and came across this Seller. Now normally, with 98% feedback rating, I dont think they are too bad. But with over 160 UNIQUE negatives, thats a bit overkill. With stuff like
Terrible product, many, many scratches on DVD, damaged case, Do not buy from!!!
and
THIEF -- THIEF -- THIEF -- THIEF -- THIEF -- THIEF
Follow up: Seller left me bogus jiberish retaliation negative

In their feedback... I decided not to bid on any of this guys DVDs...And he had over 600 dvds, and Im sure I could find over 50 I would want to bid on. Losing over 50 bids is quite a loss.

I think you're making my point for me. This seller has 8000+ feedback and has 700+ items for sale right now. I totally agree the seller has an alarming number of negs but it's clearly not hurting him. He's barely over the cutoff to qualify for PowerSeller status (must have 98% pos) yet continues to sell stuff like crazy.

I understand that *you* aren't going to bid on his stuff (and I wouldn't either) but are the negs hurting him? No. The majority of people see 8000+ feedback and a 98.1% positive, and they're comfortable.

In the case of the OP, a single neg or two is not going to hurt.

Are the negs hurting him? YES! He just lost 50+ bids, thats cutting down on his profits! Selling dvds for 1-2$ ea. isnt much, but of course there are people who dont care to look, and there will always be people who don't look or just not care. Of course the item may still sell, but they are also going for pennies.

If the situation calls for leaving negative or neutral feedback you bet I will leave some. It is pretty obvious when feedback is left in retaliation. You can make notes to feedback that has been left.

You don't need to 'try' to spell correctly, unless of course you never learned to spell correctly in the first place. Do yourself a favor, and take Amused's advice.

I like the idea of waiting until the last day to leave feedback, thanks. If i forget about it then i guess it wasn't meant to be, but i can set a reminder for myself. What's the deadline for leaving feedback, 60 days?
