eBay: Guy bought my laptop, fraud?

Maybe you guys can help me out here. This guy bought my laptop. He is a brand new ebay member with no feedback. He sent me this email. Is this a scam?



I'm Pleased to be a winner of your auction.I live in UK but presently
on official assignment to PH..I'm relatively new to Ebay as you can see,I have never bought anything on this site. I heard its very convinient and easy thats why i'm trying it now.This item is a gift for my Son who are studing at University of Ibadan in Nigeria, I'm buying it for him as they requested for this and to show him i care about him due to distance between us.

I will be paying you from my paypal account....and i will be paying you $150 for shipping of this items to ibadan nigeria where my son reside and I will also like you to send it through USPS first class to the below address.

I think an eaasier question to answer is "Is there any way for him to not scam me?" And that answer would be a no.

is the address verified? if not, say you will only ship to a verified paypal address

edit - also, ship an empty box to that address and when he tries to do a chargeback show paypal the tracking information and see if they will not allow the money to be charged back. try to scam him out of 150.

that never works. nigeria doesn't care about the scammers. he will just register with new info under another account.

Anything Nigeria when it comes to ebay is a scam. If he paid by paypal, he can do a chargeback and most likely, he'll get the money back, along with a laptop.

Well, I sent eBay a unpaid item notice saying that we mutually agreed not to sell the item. I got a email from paypal saying that I received the money, this email turned out to be a fake.
We'll see what happens.

OP, this is a classic scam ... do you even have to ask?

Please go to www.419eater.com to learn how the 419 scam works.

The scam is called a 419 because it is based upon the NIGERIAN 419 penal code.


In the future, state that you will only sell to US buyers who pay with cashier's checks or Money Orders. If you wish to sell using Paypal ALWAYS take the money out of your account immediately after you receive payment. If the payment is fraudulent Paypal will try to get the money back but will be unable to because you had already withdrawn it.

The parts in bold are immediate scam flags. i can't believe people still don't know this.

What this email really says:

I'm Pleased to be the scammer of your auction. I live in Nigeria, but will tell you i live in the UK but presently on official assignment to scam your ass..I'm relatively new to scamming as you can see,I have never bought anything on this site (because i scammed it all for free). I heard its very convinient and easy to scam thats why i'm trying it now. This item is a gift for my Son who are also studing scamming at the University of Ibadan in Nigeria, I'm scamming it for him as they requested for this scam test and to show him i care about him scamming abilities.
I will be paying you from someone else's paypal account (or at least will be removing the money from your account as soon as i receive the item)....and i will be paying you (again, with someone else's money or removing it afterwards) $150 for shipping of this items to ibadan nigeria where my son reside in scamming school and I will also like you to send it through USPS first class to the below fake address.

We sure do have a lot of "is this an ebay scam?" threads lately. C'mon people...wake up...

if you have to ask if it is legit, then it probably is not.
