Ebay Item Not As Described

I was wondering how I should handle this.

I purchased an item off ebay that is not as described (the size is completely wrong).

The seller wants me to pay return shipping. I don't feel that it's something that I should do as it was the seller's error. Ebay see's that I paid shipping and won't refund that fee either if I file a complaint.

How should I handle it? Return shipping isn't expensive, but that's not the point, and whose to say that if I return it, he will even refund me unless I print the label through ebay who will not give me my full refund.

Edit: I got my answer, thanks guys.

I've returned stuff before and in fact ebay always sides with the buyer. Just open a case if you haven't already and communicate in the case so that customer support will see the conversation. You have to pay shipping. I would add a tracking number and insurance. Communicate the tracking number to the seller in the case so ebay sees it.

On the sellers side once you open a case the money is automatically deducted from his/her PayPal. If the money isn't there when he/she makes an ebay purchase it will be tacked onto the price of what he/she bought. So basically the seller has already had the money taken from he/her by ebay should he not give you the return ebay will. They call it buyer protection for a reason. People that don't offer a refund still have refunds in my belief due to ebay's buyer protection. You can even break the damn item, file a not as described case in 45 days and get your damn money back!

Ebay doesn't protect the seller, only the buyer.

This kind of recommendation doesn't fly here.

File a dispute with PayPal and you'll get the full price back.

From my previous eBay Return Shipping link:
"Either you or the seller is responsible for return shipping charges, depending on the seller's return policy and the reason for the return. In most cases, sellers require that buyers pay for return shipping, but some sellers offer free return shipping—check the Return policy section of the listing. If you're returning an item because it isn't as described in the listing, the seller is responsible for return shipping charges, regardless of the seller's return policy."

That wasn't a recommendation. It was pointing out how much eBay sides with the buyer no matter what. As in: eBay policy is so bad for the seller, the buyer can even break the damn item, file a not as described case in 45 days and get their damn money back!

QFT!

Back in the early days of ebay this was a rampant problem with the seller doing the *blink blink* and saying "well I am new to this online stuff" (meanwhile with quite a few feedback).

Happened to me once. Got an item not as described nor did it work. I'll be damned if I'm gonna lose money for nothing. So I filed a claim and the seller had to pay my shipping.

You were posting to an open Internet forum, of which he's a member, so of course you weren't talking to him. But to coin an earlier phrase from the thread, you're new to this internet stuff so *shrug*

Two mads, make a sad.

Turn your frown upside down, clown.

If the OP wasn't referring to breaking an item purposely (which has been recommended here many times and even returning to a local B&M), then they can answer.

Sky net found John Connor and have taken him offline temporarily. Normal service will be resumed asap.

Thank you for your inconvenience.

Not mad at all, also he is VERY wrong of ebay always siding with the buyer.

But yeah, you mad.

That wasn't the kind of mad I was talking about, but I should have remembered that you are incapable of gaining context from what you read to understand the meanings of things. Sorry for not accommodating your autism.
