I sold an item on ebay today but in my listing I had clearly specified that I will only ship it in United States. The winning buyer is in Italy and I informed him that I cannot ship to Italy and therefore cannnot complete this sale.

Ebay has already posted final value fee on my account. I don't know how to get credit for final value fee. I don't know if I have to file for unpaid item, which doesn't seem to be the case.

Does anyone have an experience relating to this type of incident? If so, please let me know.

Thank you.

Too bad eBay users don't bother doing a little research before listing.

Go To "My eBay" --> Under "My Account" Click "Preferences" --> Under "Selling Preferences" In The Row "Buyer Requirements" Click "Show" & "Edit" --> Check The Box Under "Buyers In Countries To Which I Don't Ship" And Click "Submit".

File an Unpaid Item Dispute after the required waiting period, and it will give you the option of noting that the buyer wants you to send the item to a country which you cannot ship to. You will get your FVF refunded, and you can get the listing fees refunded if you choose the "Relist" option under your original closed auction. You will not get any listing upgrade fees refunded. You will not get your time back.

Why not just ship it? If you get the money from PayPal or whatever you accept and the buyer is willing to take the risk (if there is much of one), you really lose nothing. I always offer international shipment because it doesn't complicate matters and it brings in more bidders. You just need to set the parameters up front like PayPal, they pay actual shipping, insurance optional, and if you want, all sales final.

International mail requires you to go to the PO while shipping within US can use online postage printing.
Also, it's harder to catch a scammer living on the other side of the world.

Can't you do an easy chargeback via Paypal? The recent Nigeria scams have been doing this.

PayPal's SPP doesn't cover international payments.

Doesn't always work like that my friend. I had a cpu listed on ebay and they buyer presented a U.S. address, which turned out to be a mail forwading company in Miami and the buyer was in another country. Of course I wouldn't ship and easily got refunded from ebay... but still a hassle.

Just so you know, my comment was directed at the type of people that didn't read the part of your listing about not shipping outside the US.
