eBay Question

So I sold an item today and the guy paid everything including shipping. Here's the strange part, he lives not far from me and wants to pick the item up from me. It's a PlayStation 3 Bundle that sold for $400+. Now for my question... How would I prove that he picked up the item or received it from me? The only other option is to make a cash transaction instead. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't even think about accepting paypal for an in-person transaction. That is a strictly cash transaction - if you feel comfortable with meeting the person. You can always say no as it's up to you at this point.

For paypal? Good luck with that. Do you think paypal has professionals on staff to authenticate signatures? If the buyer claims he never received the item, the OP is screwed whether he has a signed receipt or not.

Tell him before he leaves to leave you positive feedback saying he got the item and it was in condition as described. Also maybe check his license to make sure it matches the paypal name, otherwise probably just using a stolen card.

Yea I dunno. If it were me picking up a pricey item, I'd want to inspect it before leaving regardless. Hell I do that in retail stores.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It seemed strange from the get-go, so I decided to come here and get advice. So confused now...

Option 1: Ship it, lose $25+ in fees, (imaginary ebay) "seller" protection.
Option 2: Local PickUp, save on shipping, (not sure yet) no protection from chargeback or proof he got his item.

Which option should I go with ATOT?

if he pays with paypal and you hand him the goods then you're screwed if he's out to con you. end of.

doesn't matter what you have as evidence, without proof of postage then they'll claw back the funds from you. tis a well known scam.

The answer to your question is that leaving positive feedback has no bearing upon whether the buyer can file a dispute with Paypal. Seems odd, but true.

I sold a used industrial ultrasonic cleaner that was quite pricey and sold for around $350. It was sold as used and as as-is. Buyer receives it, tests it, and leaves positive feedback.

About a month later or so (remember, you can file a Paypal dispute up to 90 days after the auction ends) he files a dispute. I file with Paypal that the item was shipped, he received it (sent UPS and all tracking info was there....), yet the buyer got the dispute completed in his favor, despite leaving positive feedback for me.

Maybe the cleaner died after a month after use, I don't know. He never responded to my emails. All I know is I was left with a Paypal account with a negative balance and I won't use Paypal ever again.

Cancel the sale on Ebay, pay your fees...and do the transaction in a public place for cash dollars.
(you could tell him he has to cover the ebay fees.)

OP, you still have his money and the bundle, right?

Tell the buyer that you are shipping the item as agreed upon (he paid for shipping) and be done with it.

Yes I still have his PayPal money and the PS3 bundle... I'm probably going to ship it out and insure it so no funny business. Thanks to everyone who voiced their opinion.

This is why I closed my eBay and PayPal accounts after using both with no issues.

PayPal can screw you in so many ways, and they have access to your bank or credit card accounts.

A buyer who wants to screw you, can screw you, pretty much no matter what you do.

I use Craig's List for everything now - all cash and in person (at a public place). I may get a little less for my items, but I never get screwed after the deal is done.
