It's probably a bad idea to have those people's bank account number not scribbled out in the pic of the check.

They think they have problems with checks bouncing now.........

Why? You don't believe public shame is what deadbeats should be put through? Do you really think he was trying to sell the check?

I disagree. I think this was a great idea. In fact, people who do things like this need to be shamed in public much more often.

Ahh... Duh.. Guess I should have paid more attention to the pic. At first I wasn't sure if those were really stamps on the check, or just a photochop.

so the seller sent the item before cashing the check? or it bounced so they didnt send but got stuck with bank fees

Seller sent the item before the cheque cleared. When a cheque bounces the bank doesn't refuse to cash it you know. The way it works is you cash the cheque, then your bank sends the cheque to the issuer's bank, then the issuer's bank deducts the funds from the issuer's account and sends the money back to your bank. If the issuer does not have sufficient funds to cover the cheque, then the issuer's bank sends the cheque back to your bank with a NFS notice, and your bank then contacts you for the money back and fees.

The process after you cash the cheque is what's known as clearing the cheque, which typically takes 2-3 days. My guess is that the seller cashed the cheque, sent the item, and after the item was sent the seller's bank got notice of NSF and contacted the seller.

A check can literally take months to bounce! Just because the money gets deposited in your account does not mean it can be retracted!

Typically collection agencies bid on groups of bad debt from banks or credit card companies and then try to collect. If they can collect, it's cash in the collection agencies pockets. None of it actually is returned to the debtor.

In this case a credit collection agency could have bid on the check, paid the seller and then could attempt collection. Usuall they only take on lots of bad debt and do not mess around with individual checks like this, but they could.

No he does not deserve it. He deserves the money that he sold the item for. He did not deserve to be ripped off.

its justified. i kno a few restuarants who post up bounced checks of customer up on their wall and exclaims: dont accept checks from these customers.

wasnt there a a tv episode (might have been seinfeld) where something similiar to what i described happened? and the episode revolved around removing the item from the wall? oh well, didnt really care for seinfeld, so i cant be sure... seinfeld: (in his seinfeld voice) why do people tie their shoes?!?! i mean, they're bound to come undone eventually...

There's a gas station here with a "Wall of Shame" with copies of bounced checks and the names of the people in big bold letters. They've also got a sign by the highway with the names of repeat offenders
