ebay: shipping to puerto rico

i just got a question from a potential buyer on an HP iPAQ i am selling on ebay.

can you ship to Puerto Rico USA

he hasn't done anything suspicious, i've just never shipped outside the continental US, and i'm not sure what the risks are. any advice or insight is appreciated.

I've done it before. Puerto Rico is okay I guess. It's just a pain in the arse since Fedex/UPS charges ridiciuliously high shipping because it is "international" and makes you do customs and all that jazz. You can go to the post office and send it much cheaper but I think they still make you do customs forms. Irregardless it is a pain in the arse. It's your choice if you want to do that.

shipping to PR should be no different than shipping to another state

Have done it a few times either sending or recieving items and haven't had to fill out any extra paper work

Yes PR is part of the US, but I know for a fact that Fedex/UPS treat it as an international shipment. Post Office probably doesn't but yea whatever I hate the PO.

is there an extra risk factor for fraud when shipping to PR? i've been trying to find information on ebay and paypal seller protection when selling to PR, but i can't seem to find much of anything. i can handle shipping, i was more concerned about getting ripped off.

Ship via USPS if you can, priority with insurance or something like that. You get the same rates as for the 50 US states. PR is part of the US, hence all federal laws apply. I am from PR so if you have any more questions, PM me.

Unless the guy in PR is the only one interested in your IPAQ, otherwise I will just sell to another buyer in the states for may be $10 less just to avoid all the potential troubles.
Having to go to the PO, fill up the custom forms, possible mis-delivery, scam, etc. It's just not worth the trouble for a few bucks more.

PR residents can have confirmed addresses with paypal so you're good to go.

There are no custom forms. If you use the PO it is like shipping to any state.
