Nice prices for sure but don't forget you get what you pay for. Any motherboard that is halfway decent will probably have a problem with any of these power supplies. They are 300w but there is not enough of the power to go around. It is tempting to buy one though to see how good they are.

The PSU should be fine for everyday normal use. But if you intend to overclock stay away from cheap PSUs because you'll have a hard time reaching stability due to the poor quality. As many have stated, buy a quality PSU and don't go cheap.

Are these cases really worth the time? I was thinking about a couple of them. I can't even buy a cheap power supply locally for that much money and they are throwing in a case with free shipping and no tax in Illinois. Is it worth a shot?

I have a cheap case running a Duron system right now. It's not only a cheap case and power supply, but it's beat up as well. I think it would be cheaper to replace it with one of these cases than to even bother buying paint to try and fix up the current case. The only thing that I regret is that I wasted an NMB quiet fan to replace the loud psu fan in this old beat up case.

I've purchased 2 "cheap" cases from Ebuyer and have been very happy with them for the price and application. The cases are a little flimsy but for the price they are actually pertty nice.

Both systems have K7S5A motherboards. One has a duron overclocked from 900 to 1.2 gig and the other is an Athlon overclocked from 1800+ to 2200+. Those aren't real impressive overclocks but are fine for kids computers.

I do agree with an earlier posters comment that if you're going to go hardcore, these aren't the case/power supply combinations for you.

Ebuyer's service has been good too. I had one issue that they took care of right away and shipped me a case 2 day airborne express. I was shocked when they called me back, let alone, get a case to me as quickly as possible due to a screw up on their part.

Same here, I bought two cases with 300W PSU and they are nice considering how much I paid for them $18 and $20 shipped, respectively. I would definately buy from them again.

I actually have one of the 300W PSU's powering my Tbred 1700+ B overclocked and all the voltage rails look good (stable) inside the bios. Hope this helps.

Pigseye: Which cases did you buy? I plan on running a non oc'd Duron 800 in one of them and a XP1800+ non oc'd in the other one with minimal accessories.

I'm thinking about buying the Kingcase GL8-517D-S Silver Mini Tower W/300w Power Supply and the JNC 4JA54(A) Beige Midtower Case W/300 Watt.

They are quick find numbers: 124346 and 124396. Sorry, I can't seem to link them.

I bought one JNC case (it is blue and white and has a handle on top) to upgrade the case on a unit PIII667 in a crappy COMPUSA chassis. I had a lot of problems with the build construction of the case, the plate to secure the expansion cards would not go on correctly and bent, and the keyboard and mouse would not work on the motherboard in this case. I put the guts of the system back into the COMPUSA case and everything works fine using the JNC power supply. I would avoid the JNC cases.

Do you have the name and/or power supply specs of those cases?

OK, if I bought this case and just wanted to throw 2 or 3 Hard Drives in it to run off the power supply (and maybe even a DVD burner) - and then put the case next to my Dell 4600 - which I would install a Pci Raid card in - could I basically connect the 2 0r 3 drives in this case to the PCI Raid card in the to Run a RAID setup.

Kind of like a homemade SAN Array?

superstein, you would need to provide voltage to one of the pins on the 12-pin plug that normally goes into the motherboard. This is what turns on the voltage rails for the rest of the power supply. Put another way: if you have drives hooked up to a power supply and just sitting there in the case, they aren't getting any power. (Just as if you never pushed the power button on your computer.)

You will also have problems with the max length of an IDE cable, which is supposed to be 18", although you might find 24" or even 30" cables.

Now, in a really large case, some people mod things by hooking up a 2nd power supply just to feed the peripherals. E.g., I've seen this done by taking up two 5.25" drive bays. A cheap PSU should be fine for this.

Salvador and Daclayman,

JNC H7650-2 Black/Silver Mid Tower Case W/ 300 Watt & Front USB - This one has the k7s5a and Duron

JNC 4JA8861(A) Midtower Case W/300 Watt Power Supply - This one is being built into a k7s5a and 1800 athlon

I can't find the other case I ordered but it looks like this one:
Kingcase K2-517D-MG Metallic Grey Mid Tower Case W/ 300w Power Supply - This also has a K7s5a and 1800 Athlon

I'm not at home so I can't tell you the specs are on the powersupply. Is later tonight good enough?

Pigseye: Thanks for the information.

The systems that you are running with these cases and power supplies sound similar to what I plan to run, so that's great. Especially since you're running the K7S5A off of these power supplies. In case you guys don't know, the ECS K7S5A is infamous for being picky about power supplies. I'd say if you can get the ECS board to run off of it, you shouldn't have any problem unless you plan on running a really fast chip (and overclocking) or running a lot of drives or accessories.

cremefilled - thanks for the info - that helps a lot - might be something I play with.

I had thought about the possibility of buying a really large case - and moving everything from my small 4600 into it, plus the extra drives - but was wondering about the power supplies, etc. Might also be something I will look into - thanks

ebuyer always has cases for ~$20 shipped don't know what the 12 hour thing is about they've been doing it for months...

anyway, I have bought several, they are a tad flimsy but for low $ systems they get the job done. I have yet to have one come with a DOA PSU. Built several systems with them all with AMD's mostly Durons but a couple of XP's.

The biggest drawback to this deal is shipping, They ship them via USPS Parcel post. I live in Florida and takes about 11 days for the cases to get here.

I usually keep one or two handy for when a Family member / friend wants a cheap PC built. Matter of fact I have a Kingcase K2-522D-LT-K10 Black Mid Tower sitting in the garage right now.

Some of the models are on sale and some aren't. One of the cases that I bought was $25 just a few days ago and now it's $18.99. I don't know about the other one, but it's $19.99 right now. I know that the case for $16.99 was at least $19.99 the other day.

I'm not buying so much because of the deal. I was going to purchase a couple of cases anyway. I'm just glad that this sale came up to save me a couple of $$.

Ziptar: How is that Kingcase that you have in your garage right now? I was going to buy that case, but bought the Kingcase GL8-517D-S Silver Mini Tower W/300w Power Supply instead.

Hi Salvador,
Glad I could be of help. I can't guarantee you anything, but my systems are running on a daily basis and being used by kids for games and internet with no issues. Hopefully you won't have any problems either.

All,
Regarding long shipping times, actually to shipping WI has not been that long, maybe a week or so. For these prices and free shipping I can't complain.

I actually ordered the Kingcase K2-522D to have on hand. I've got so many PC parts I could probably build 3 more machines just with upgrade leftovers from friends and family.

The only power supply that I have ever had blowup was a $10 cheapie from SVC.com. I certainly don't blame them, that was a cheap supply, but I didn't really tax the supply at all so that was a disappointment. Luckily I didn't lose any hardware either.

For my main PC which has 3 hdds, 3 optical drives, and is used for video editing and DVD ripping, I have a ANTEC TRUE430 which is great. But for kids or just humor PCs, I don't worry to much about cheap power supplies.

It really comes down to your application. Is it mission critical? If yes, don't use a cheap case and PS.

Good luck to all,
Pigseye
