$79 - Amazon $20MIR - Nokia/ATT $50 MIR = $29.99, free ship, and a $25 airtime card thrown in.

Already Have a Phone?
If you have a Digital multi-network phone* that is compatible with the AT&T Wireless network, simply pick up a Starter Kit to sign up for service. Starter Kits are available in authorized dealers locations. It includes a comprehensive user guide and quick tips to get you started.
*Does not include the Ericsson R280LX, R289LX or Mitsubishi T250 Internet Ready Phones.

So they claim. I don't even think they know anymore. We had to bring it to their attention before they changed their site.
My wife is being charged to send AND receive text. The Callplus/Locus Comm CSR even said they are charging to receive text. I tend to believe them over Ecallplus, because Ecallplus is just one of their resellers and doesn't seem to have all their facts straight.

Your minutes carry over, so IMO, it's not worth wasting the unused airtime to switch to Ecallplus.
AT&T may expire in 45-days, but you can buy $10 of airtime. Monthly average cost is the same.
The ability to receive text for free on AT&T makes it worthwhile, even if you don't use it, there are many things you can do with it. My friend gets daily weather reports sent to his phone. I have my Ebay outbid alerts sent to my phone. Sometimes I keep track of deals, some sites like PriceGrabber can send an alert when a price drops on something you're watching.

Just to update my previous post- I ordered the Amazon.com deal I mentioned (Nokia 5165/ATT Free2go) which will be $29.99 after 2 rebates and while Amazon said the kit came with one $25 airtime card, it ALSO has a mail-in offer for another $25 card! So the deal was even better!

One draw back on eCallplus service is that: any voicemail message will incur airtime (leaving a message or retrieving one), while ATT is free. Also, ATT has free 611 number to call to check airtime left and expiration date. I am not sure about eCallplus.
