Question ECC Registered Ram: Mixing Identical Kits

So I know that identical RAM from different sets / kits may cause system instability. I'm talking about RAM with identical brand & serial numbers but with a different batch number (usually a 4 digit number).

I've had first hand experience with this issue with regular non ECC RAM - but my question is if that's true for ECC Registered RAM?

I'm looking at RAM on eBay, and one of the sellers is telling me that mixing identical sets this is not a problem with ECC Registered RAM - so just want to clarify it.

Also, not sure if AMD vs. Intel platform makes a difference in this case, but I'd be using this with AMD.

I've not seen an issue in the enterprise space with mixing memory from different batches but we also purchased from the large resllers. If you think about, the motherboards may support up to 32 slots and only 1/2 may be populated when originally purchased. Nearly impossible to find sticks from the original batch.

completely dependant on the server board and how picky it is with RAM.

I have had some server boards not care what ram you put in as long as it was ECC-Reg.
I have had others which just refused to boot up because it was not paired.

To be on the safe side, i would pay a bit more and make sure they are all paired, as in the long run, it may save you a headache, especially with AMD.

Also what AMD are you running that supports ECC-REG ram?
