Japan's foreign minister says an anti-whaling activist being held onboard a Japanese whaling vessel in the Antarctic Ocean will be taken to Tokyo and will not be released to a third country.


Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada says Peter Bethune, from the Sea Shepherd conservation group, is being held aboard the ship under international maritime law.

Mr Bethune was detained two days ago after jumping aboard the Shonan Maru 2 and attempting to present its skipper with a $3 million bill for the destruction of the Ady Gil powerboat, of which he was captain.
Japanese media reports say that after Mr Bethune has been taken to Tokyo, the government will try to establish a criminal case and possibly charge him with piracy.

Seeing as the Japanese are whaling in that area Illegally they have no leg to stand on IMHO. Sea Shepherd are the only people out there willing to call out the Japanese on their activities.

That and the use of the word 'Terrorist' is just bandied around way too often and it lacks power especially when misused for dramatic effect. Terrorists used to blow shit up, shoot people in the face or torture people. Now all you have to do is worry a few sheep and you're a 'terrorist'.

Regardless of the effects on the environment, which I frankly don't give a shit about, the Japanese whalers are breaking international law. This is unfair to other countries. The Japanese do not own those whales nor have any right to them.

If the Japanese can hunt those whales without repercussions, all other countries should be able to also. It's an unfair business & economic advantage.
