I am looking at buying an ECS L7S7A, from what I have read about ECS mobo's is that the are low end. Having checked out the ECS website this does look like a good board though. All opinions greatly excepted.

right ... ECS don't know how to make quality stuff. That's why Shuttle, Abit and of course Apple have them make stuff for them.

In short, ECS make cost effective no-nonsense boards that work. This is what made them big in the OEM world, where contracts are lost and won by the combination of price and quality, and where overclocker's toys are irrelevant.

So do you mean ECS makes moboards for Apple, the most overpriced hardware in the world? I just refuse to believe it, sorry.

ECS make cheap and cheerful boards, there`re the no.1 OEM manufacturer and specialize in low cost boards etc,you can buy better quality boards but then it will cost you more money,it`s all down to what you want and how much you`re willling to spend.I prefer to spend more for better brand like MSi, Epox etc but then that`s just me .

So I guess what has come out of these comments is that ECS boards are actually quite good and worth purchasing if your not after all the gadgets.

If you dont overclock and have at least some hardware no how then ECS boards can be really good. I have two ECS k7S5A and they both work fine.

from what i have read they are good boards, not the best for performance but good, not best for o/c but someare good, real good for stability.

basically if you want a board that runs stable and you dont plan on o/c ing and dont care if your MB is the top of the heap when it comes to performance you can save alot of money by going this route.

Not a question of belief ... just keep yourself informed. ECS have been making the iBook all the time (OK, ECS absorbed that particular notebook company about a year ago, that's also where the ECS DeskNote series comes from). They recently won the contract to make the new 12" screen model PowerBook for Apple. The entire thing, not just the mainboard.

The parrotish ECS-bashing crowd might have to learn something here ...

The SIS735 chipset out performs KT133, KT133A, KT266 and KT266A. It is one very nice and powerfull board.

doesn't out-do KT266A

KT266A is a fantastic performer. runs right with a KT333 which in turn also means it runs with a KT400.

my XP1800+ rig is a KT266A and I cant see changing it any time soon.... very good performance!!!

Seems that ECS may be the right board for me, thanks for all the responses.
Has anyone heard or seen any info on the L7S7A mobo yet, this is what I am interested in buying but except from the ECS web site that's all the info I can find. I do hope they will use the 746FX chipset though.

i wasnt debating chipsets, i was debating brands. unless ecs is the only one that uses the sis chip you mentioned it doesnt matter.

ECS, PCChips, Amptron, etc... use the SIS735 chipset in boards.

Like I said, the best bang for the inexpensive buck.

Now you see how Apple gets that wonderful profit-margin. Buy low, sell high

... which, at the end of the day, is all the same company - the PCChips group. And even under different names, M830 or K7S5A, it's the exact same board. (There have been rare sidelines K7S5A+ and K7S5A2, but not on retail shelves.)

The only other contender is Chaintech, but since the huge numbers of K7S5A produced basically ate all the 735 output from SiS, they never gained much market with theirs.
