I bought a ECS K7S5A with AMD 1G Duron (boxed) combo, and 350W case from Frys last week. When I switch on the machine after assembly, CPU fan started running, HD led flashed once, then nothing else happened. No display, no beep sound. I tried to disconnect all devices, cards, replace memory, it still did not work. I installed PC133 SDRM. Does anybody know why? Thanks

Have you cleared the cmos yet? Have you tried your ram in the other slot? And are all the fans running including the CPU fan, power supply fan, etc. you reached your point of

try reseating your RAM... a couple of times ... !! sometimes it just doesn't fit properly...
check whether all power connectors are connected properly or not!!

Make sure you really shove that video card all the way down in the AGP slot. With my board I put my card in, pulled it out, put it back in, etc. a few times, and I wondered why everyone said the AGP slot was tight on these boards. Then I pushed the card in again and it went in much farther than before, and I really thought I had it in all the way before that!
If everything else is running, maybe the video just isn't working yet.

Don't bother trying to fix it. I did almost everything possible and all it did was cause me stress and a throbbing headache. Tried 2 of them before I gave up and just bought a soyo dragon + and learned a lesson to never buy a board that has a history of such problems.

Do a mimimun setup , CPU/HS/fan, vid card, memory, keyboard, mouse, power connectors. on an insulated surface OUT of the case. Can you get it to post? IF it does then you may well have a case short, examine the standoffs and make sure they all line up with a mounting hole.

If it does not POST now it is way easy to reseat components and keep trying.

If you have a PCI vid card try it in one of slots far away from the AGP slot.

I put my money withPG's solution. Seat and reseat the video card a bunch of times, the slot is real tight. Try another video card, PCI, if possible. Also do the same with the memory (same reason, tight slots).

I've built three computers with this motherboard, all are great. I had the same problem you have on the first one.

Look to the official thread(s) here or the forum at ocworkbench.com for more info (and files at ocworkench).

Akhan....I've put together 2 K7S5A's and know of at least 3 additional builds that went without a hitch.(using the right drivers!) One common denominator is we all bought from NEWEGG. HaHaHa, If you have issues, RMA the board and try again...it's unlikely you'll have the same issues with a second board...if so, maybe the parts or the install method may be the culprit!

Funny thing about the ECS K7S5A motherboards. Some of them work. Some do not. If you get one that does not, there is no fixing it. I had a rev.1 board that had to be RMA'd. A friend of mine had a rev.1 and a rev.4. The rev.1 had to be RMA'd (same prob. as mine and everyone else, sometimes it just would not POST for the love of God). The rev.4 so far (a few weeks) has not had any of these problems whatsoever. One problem that all three of these boards have is that they were picky about RAID cards (since they don't have one built-in). Even the rev.4 board that otherwise works fine will have problems POSTing with a RAID card stuck in.

i have this ecs board. I am sending it back because it wont post all the time. Sometimes it will, sometimes it just sits there with the fans & drives spining. I have another that work beautifully.

Yup same problem here but get this I took it back to the store and they got it to boot (on a box with a cheap 300W PS compared to my Enermax 431W) immediately. I still could not get it to boot. I placed it on a box and pressed the RAM and video card so hard and still no boot. After a few hours I said heck with this and threw it away after smashing it up.
Later with exact same components I switched to an EPOX 8KHA+ and booted up 20 minutes later and the moral of the story is.......

My K7S5A is a little touchy about installing the RAM in the SDRAM slot. I had to reseat it once and it booted fine. Installing DDR went without a hitch. What type of vid card are you using? This problem seems to happen a lot with the newer ATI cards. Your PSU could be the problem as well. These boards seem to be a bit power hungry, especially when using DDR memory.

Reseat RAM and video card. Those two slots are known to be tight for some K7S5A's. I had trouble with my AGP slot.
