Is 1.4 Athlon biggest I may use? Is the new palomino a possibility? I know i can't overclock so just looking to buy the biggest {with most value for buck} right now for my ecs.

Thanks in advance.

Don't mean to bug you guys but to be honest I just ask you guys who know and do what you say - so I have another question

Is the new XP chip worth it and if not what is the biggest Athlon that sill work in my mobo - Is it 1.4?

Well I know the 1.53ghz athlon 1800+ does...it is only an 11.5 multiplier...ECS already has stated it supports xp'sand one article I saw weeks ago said it could support up to 1.6ghz...

I think the 1.53ghz 1800+ would be the only thing worth it in terms of performance with the advanced features of the palomino core...however at current price I thing the bang for the buck isn't there enough yet...I paid 99 for my 1.4 just a few weeks ago before the recent explosion in price og the 1.4 up to 112+....For me 203+ isn't going to give me enough for the 2 times the cash...

If you don't have a 1.4tbird as of now I would only get an xp and only from 1600+ up...IMO

Its up to you. THis website here has price guides with some pretty good charts to show you the price difference in the Athlon XP.

Thanks to all of you - but now I am really confused

What I do know - get a 266 fsb - you guys told me that last week

What I don't know is why the numbers of the XP don't necessarily match

The following is from newegg - I am considering this chip

"Amd 1500+/266 FSB Athlon XP 1500+ Athlon XP 1500+/ 1.33GHz, AX1500DMT3C, OEM Fedex Saver Shipping $10.00 "

now those numbers match however survey 23 wrote
"Well I know the 1.53ghz athlon 1800+ does"

Now those numbers don't match

Why is it a 1.53 gzh but followed by 1800?

Geek 167 - thanks for the link but the prices seem a little oudated unless things have dropped considerably today.

Newegg apparently has the 1.5gz XP for 125 plus 10 shipping - Am I on the right track here. Is this the true XP with the newest technology and is it indeed a 1.5gz?

There seems to be little price difference around the 1.4 gz mark between the Athlon and the ZP - makes no sense to me.

Oh and anyone reading this - are we sure that the ECSK7s5a board I have will use the 1.5gz XP?

Thanks again

1.53GHZ is the true clock speed but thanks to amd and athon xp pr rating it is an 1800+ or in their minds equivalent to that of a 1800mhz tbird (if it would go that high)

pr rating system...

true mhz -------- athon pr rating

1.33ghz = 1500+ xp
1.40ghz = 1600+ xp
1.47ghz = 1700+ xp
1.53ghz = 1800+ xp

They are all 266fsb chips...xp's are based on the palomino core and have new features such as on chip sse functions and hardware prefetching....older 1.4tbird 266fsb or "c" chip as it is called doesn't have new features since older core and doesn't run any pr rating....

ECS has already stated it will run xp's...all that entails is ability to read and take advantage of the hardware prefetch and sse codings...

Other then that a 1.53ghz (1800+) is merely 11.5 (multiplier) x 133mhz fsb = 1.533ghz...most modern boards will support up to a 12.5multiplier which should cover you til 1.666ghz...some may even go to 13....

The ecs mobo already can read 200fsb chips and if someone got a 1.3ghz 200fsb it would have to have 13 multiplier to support it...

I also believe the official word at ecs is 1.5+ ghz...and that was written prior to official xp release
