ECS K7S5A USB trouble:/

Hi! I bought this mobo today and I dont know what to make of it... I bought it mainly to see if it could improve on audio/IDE-performance, since I use the computer solely for that purpose. And it DID improve. However it came at a price of instability (the program I uses crashed after 5 minutes, and it hardly ever crashes). I am not sure if that is a permanent problem though. I have to rule out other things first. The worst thing is that my USB MIDI interface is not recognized at Windows bootup. I have to unplug/replug it each time Windows has booted, or it won't work. Anyone experienced similar behaviour with USB on this board?

Hmmmm.... I use a logitech dual optical mouse on my USB port and it hasn't caused me any problems, are you using the latest bios?

Nope... 3rd-latest... Will try the latest tomorrow, but there's no mention of any USB fixes on ECS's site, so I think it's a longshot.

did u use the USB port next to the ps/2 connector or use your additional connector?
I heard the lastest BIOS is not a very good one (post at www.ocworkbench.com's forum). You may want to go down one version.

Research the Microsoft knowledge base for OHCI USB controller driver updates, there have been quite a few.
Then there's a USB filter driver available on www.sis.com that will take care of the remaining quirks.

If your using windowsXP O.S. then the USB detection problem will most likely be resolved by using the SiS USB Registry Patch. Also, lsman's advice about the latest official bios reflects what I've heard as well, and that's don't use it. The stabilty issues are hopefully resolved with the info Peter provided

I am running Win98se. Downloaded a ton of MS USB patches. Didnt help. I now updated the BIOS. Didnt change anything, except now my Symbios Logic SCSI card doesnt work. Nice.

OK guys. I seem to have solved most problems by removing a no-name 512mb SDRAM module. Havent had a crash since, and I ran 3dMark and CPUSTAB for 8 hours or so without trouble. The USB thing was resolved by bypassing my ACTIVE USB CABLE. Going directly from my MIDI interface into a USB HUB, it is found on each bootup. The SCSI interface still doesnt work though. Maybe I'll go back to an earlier BIOS...
