ECS K7VTA3 vs. Shuttle AK31 v. 3.1

My experience: I bought a Shuttle AK31 off the for sale forum, and have not been able to get it post at all. Read all about it on different forums. Power supply issues seemed most popular. Well, I was using an antec 300w ps. No go. I WILL NOT drop $40-$50 on a name brand amd approved power supply to hopefully make this thing run.

So I spent the $46 shipped on a new ECS K7VTA3 mobo. Got it today, popped it in, hooked everything up, and boom (John Madden) everything worked great. That's with a 250w enlight ps.

I won't be overclocking with this board-I even had to set a jumper to get to the 133mHz fsb. But I won't be overclocking on the Shuttle AK31 either-since I can't even get it to boot up.

Highly probably stupid question here, but I don't care because I want to know. This board has "onboard modem" which is enabled in the bios. Well, where do you plug the phone jacks in??? Is this an OPTION, and so you get something with boards that have the optional modem?

The 'onboard modem' on ECS boards come in the flavor of AMR (or CNR, can't remember) riser cards that plug into that little short slot. ECS boards usually do not come with the riser card, you have to buy them separately. pcChips boards (ECS's more retail line) usually include it.

And by the way, ECS manufacturers the motherboards for Shuttle.

That perplexes and irritates me even more that I can't get the Shuttle working. Grrrr.
