Make sure you've got the front speakers plugged into line-out, rear speakers plugged into line-in, and if you have a center speaker that goes into the microphone. If you have a 4.1 or 5.1 setup, open up the C-media control mixer (should be a icon on the taskbar) and select either 4 CH or 6 CH. Sorry if it sounds so confusing

I get no sound out the back (yes I'm in the right jack), but sound out the front regardless of 2, 4, 6 channel. And now I found out, only out the left side. Verified that speakers work good. I'm going to try unplugging the speaker extension cable, and upgrade the audio drivers.

I rule out hardware; either sound either comes out, or it doesn't, not only on one side... that should be a setting issue.

I'll let you all know my findings.

Well, that was a nogo. Still no sound out my right speaker. Granted, the speaker is older than dirt (from my Win3.1/DOS days). I'm not a gamer, or heavy media user, but I like to have sound when I do play the occasional Civ or Sim.

The right side crackles when moved indicating a loose wire, but it worked yesterday on my computer at work.

Maybe I'll stop by Fry's to pick me up some inexpensive current speakers.

Still no sound out the back, out of any of the jacks when I change settings.

Get a current sound card while you're there..

I got this ECS board and a 2500+ BArton from Fry's combo deal for $69.

I am running this baby with 1gb KBYTE memory from Fry's ($164) at 2.315 Ghz stiock! I am lucky!

That is great! I tried 200MHz FSB (2.2GHz), but Prime95 failed in 1 hour. I am able to run at 196MHz FSB without problems.

Why? It's the built in that's failing(???) not an old sound card.

Now I notice that the left and right speakers are backwards. Right sound out the left speaker; left sound at the right speaker. (assuming it worked)

Verified my connections, and they follow the manual pinouts. So now I am thinking hardware issue. Probably not case since no sound out the back at all.

Maybe a sound card would be the best thing. I'll wait until their Friday deals tho.

Could the manual be wrong?

I meant treat yourself to something like an Audigy or M-Audio card..
I tried the onboard sound when I first got the board for sh!t's and giggles and
found it of very poor quality. Even got some weird crackles and pops. Put in my trusty
old SBLive! and all was golden again.

Nice O/C you got out of that.. I'm sticking with 2.204 and being damn happy to get that. What a great deal for $69 eh?

Yes it was a great deal! My experience the onboard sound isn't that bad, no pops or crackles. I just prefer using my 3 year old audigy, even though it's been defective for awhile now. I've been running 190 fsb for about 2 weeks now. I love the low temps on the barton! Previously running a Palomino and that thing always runs around 45-50c. Highest OC I got with that pally was 143 FSB! Again, great DEAL!

Hello, I'm new here and I thought I would pass along this info. Go to the c-media site and download the latest drivers along with the media rack and that might help your sound problems. Also download the latest drivers from nvidia (version 4.24) for this board's chipset . As for the memory issue, I have a twinx 1024 platinum from corsair ( 2-512 dual channel) in slots 2 and 3 and they work fine. I hope this helps.

ECS is a good way to build an inexpensive system. It is false economy to skimp on the power supply and memory, these parts are to blame for many of the complaints people have with ECS. Your old power supply and memory may not work in the new system.
