No, as long as you don't need sata hardrive support, which this board doesn't have. One gentlemen was able to run his barton 2500 at 3200 on this board by changing the cpu fsb to 200, but this varies with memory and cpus. Some will overclock, and some won't. I recommend crucial, samsung, mushkin, or corsair pc3200 memory. 2 256 meg sticks will let you run in dual mode.

Just don't try to run 2x512MB PC3200DDR and expect this board to POST. Many reports of problems with this specefic setup and 2x512 DDR are abound.
Just as o1die stated, use 2x256 DDR for fewer possible problems.
I currently have this board with XP2500 Barton and 256MB PC2700 DDR in my HTPC running just fine. Nice board for the price!

I just built a computer with this setup and I like it! I'm running with Kingston valueram 2100 and my barton 2500+ at 190 fsb. The performance should be a lot better with better ram but that can wait until I upgrade my video card. So far, it's very stable and runs very smoothly. I just upgraded from another budget board A7V8X-X, which was a very nice board but I decided I couldn't pass up on this deal. Even though my ATI Radeon 8500 can't handle a lot of games these days, it runs a lot better than my old setup. I don't wanna replace my 8500! This ECS board is nice for basic computing and gaming! Overclocking options are limited but the bios gives you some room to work with. Hopfully this board will last me 3-4 months. I've owned a ECS and PC CHIPS before and they had terrible performance compared to other boards the same type. Now, I believe they have got a lot better with this NF2 Ultra 400 chipset. Maybe it's just me...

It should work fine with 256 meg pc3200. The manual lists the slot combinations that work work in dual channel mode. I use pc2700 in mine, but my xp2600 barton won't post at 200.

Mine works fine with 2 x 256 PC3200 and 1 x 512 PC3200 (all three slots populated). It did not work with 2 x 512 MB single sided modules.

I don't think the board is so much of a concern is your cpu itself. A 2500+ Barton is not a guaranteed overclock, and this board does not support voltage bumps, so if you cannot attain 3200+ at default voltages, it could be the chip itself.

Do not buy an ECS board with grand overclocking aspirations. If you do manage to get the FSB to 200, you have done your homework and used quality components. If not, let it at 2500+ and enjoy it.

The board does support increasing FSB in 1 MHz increments so you are also free to try speeds between 166MHz and 200MHz if the CPU can't run at 200.

I bought the 2800 XP/ N2U400 combo at outpost....but the N2U400 arrived DOA and nothing would get it to post.

So I get a $31.00 refund. I'll stick with the motherboard models that have worked for me... Asus, Abit, and Biostar.

Great deal if you get a working board.
