I recently purchased the ECS NForce4 A939 & X2 3800+ combo with a X300 video card at frys. I cannot get the system to post and tried out different RAM (Kingston 512 PC3200 ValueRam & Corsair XMS 256 PC3200) and reseted the cmos several times. I was wondering if the BIOS needs to be updated to support the X2 3800+, will I need to get another 939 chip to update the BIOS? Maybe a dead mobo? Please help.

from what i have read, it should post even if the current bios doesn't support x2, it will just see it as a single core.

if all of the cabling and jumpers are set correctly and you are using other known good components, i would take it back to frys and exchange it. have them test it out to make sure it posts at the store.

I would first get another chip and update the BIOS, it might not support dual-core right off, if that doesn't work, exchange the mobo.

Also, I have an ECS board and the bios defaults to pci for vga. If you have a spare pci video card try that first.

I have read where more than one of those ECS nForce4 mobo's have been delivered doa. So, yours very well could have. Looks like you got that combo from the fry's/outpost deal. Anyways, is it not beeping or anything? The mobo is most likely no good.

Good old ECS QC....

By the way what is th epSU you are trying to power this up with...got ALL the plugs plugged into the mobo??

Have the Fan off of the heatsink plugged into the correct header on the mobo...

Have you tried doing this outside the case in case there is a grounding issue???

Just dont want to make you look like a fool if you take it back and those morons get it to work....embarassing...
