I've had good luck with both.

I personally favor Gigabyte, but i've built 2 machines with ASRock that have been solid.

of course my experiences are just a few anecdotes in millions.
Nice, your experience matters alright
I'm a fan-boy of both of them
& I dislike ASUS a lot

Each manufacturer has examples of both reliable and unreliable mobo's. Whenever a manufacturer tries to compete in the budget segment they run the risk of producing a less reliable board. I believe ASRock has the most success doing budget boards that are reliable.

Top shelf motherboards are dominated by Asus. It's really their crown to lose. Ain't for lack of trying because Asus has made some really bad mobo's too.

I rarely consider the manufacturer in purchasing decision. It's much more important to me that the board has already proven to be reliable. I'm rarely an early adopter or on the cutting edge.

True. It's my experience with the ECS K7S5A that has turned me off that brand forever. A legendarily bad board.

(and hey, that motherboard is current to when this thread was originally made!)

the reason I favor gigabytes is because i was impressed with how seamless the bios updating was, and they are fairly reliable.
