I was under the impression this was an instant rebate, but apparently it is indeed a mircocenter mail-in, I can call to find out about this.

If anyone can figure out how the rebate on these things work, I'd be willing to buy them for you two AK guys (raider & nut). I live in Houston and am considering getting one of these for myself (halo 2 and using this tv to grid up as a channel preview tv ). Can anyone figure out how big that base stand is? I'm thinking of sitting this bad boy on top of my existing crt TV if it'll fit (my other one is a floor standing one so i'm hoping it will).

PS- Is this really that good of a deal? Seems that the hotness may vary depending on your plans to use it. I know retail for these is normally closer to 1500, but is this a hot deal for primarily use as a TV? I think for use with a HTPC it would be pretty sweet, and even for use as an everyday PC monitor it would be good, but not for hardcore gaming and such.

For those that are a ways away, you could always try calling the "closest" MicroCenter and asking if they can ship the TV to you.

I bought my tilting wall-bracket from Provantage. The bracket is made by Peerless. It is crazy that these things cost $100+, b/c there is nothing to them. I'm mounting mine this Friday (also hiding wires in the walls, no easy task when were talking DVI cable, RGB, 2 component, 1 SVideo, etc). I bought all my cables from pccables.com, which I highly recommend. Great prices and quick delivery.

Here is the link to the Tilting Wall Mount at Provantage. You can get the non-tilting one for $75 or so:

Peerless Tilting Wall Bracket for Syntax Olevia 27" / 30"

Non Tilting Wall Bracket (although the Provantage site says it's tilting, it's not...check the Peerless website, they have a compatibility matrix (pdf file)-Link to PDF file (it's kinda large)

This is more a TV then a desktop monitor replacement. You will most likely be disapointed at the resolution if this was close to your face. The pixel size on this thing is massive, .71 dot pitch. Most computer monitors are .20-.28 with some as low as .12mm on some specialized workstation monitors that cost a fortune. Most LCD's are around .26-.30. This high dot/pixel size will result in a grainy looking image and the closer you are to the screen the more evident it will be.

For instance the Apple 30" was meant to be a computer monitor. It has a very good .25 dot pitch.

The pixel size of this Olevia screen is even poor for LCD TV standards which are around .5-.6mm.

link to some info and picture

For a TV I think this is a really good deal, but don't think you are getting a 30" PC monitor quality screen. There is a reason 22-30" PC LCD's cost so much money and require powerful video cards. The tighter resolutions and gross amount of pixels are very different then that of a TV grade LCD of the same size.

I love mine the DVD quility with component in is excellent. The one thing I notice that is kind of bad on the LCD TV is there is only 1 component. I guess I have to use a receiver for more component input or find some other ways to do it. Because I want to use component input for my DVD player, PS2 and Xbox.

For those who go this TV is the second component input support 480i? I tried with my XB but the picture is all mess up with the 480i enable. (Could be the game, if the game don't support HD will it mess up the image?)

"HDTV Input Y/Pb/Pr x 1 (480i, 480p, 1080I, 720p)
Component Input Y/Cb/Cr x 1 (480i) "

Anyone know any good AV selector that has component input?

When Doom3 came out the MicroCenter by me used this one and the 27" as the demo monitors, and all I saw of the gamers sitting in front of them was licking of chops.

Like someone else said previously, this thing is a tv not a computer monitor.. at 30 inches my resolution would be at 1600 atleast and this thing only does 1024x768 which is crap..

No it does 1280x768, and using the powerstrip settings for it..it is VERY nice as a monitor imho. Text is sharp and clear.

Power strip users,

What specific settings are you guys using?

I'm having a problem getting power strip to save my timing settings or something. I would apply the setting for 1280 x 760 and everything would look nice. But then if I close a window or something else minor, all the text will become garbled and full screen movies are in slo-mo. I reapply the setting in power strip and then it's ok again, but that doesn't last long. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

Spoke to a Microcenter rep at the Tustin CA store. He said that the price should be good until December 15th and stock is still comming in.
