I bought one of these for my dad as a monitor. To answer a question above the base is a little bigger than a sheet of paper. I didn't measure it just goin from memory.

If I got one of these I don't know if I would sell my 32" sony wega and use it for a tv or use as my monitor. Some things I noted about it from being around it for a couple of hours today. On bootup bios and the windows boot screen it gets verticle blue lines evenly spaced across the screen and the text is very blury. Once it gets to the welcome screen it is nice, very nice. Grapics are real nice text is ok. It doesn't hurt your eyes to read but it not crisp. My video card had the native resolution available so that is what I used. I just forget if it was 1280x768 or 1280x720. I didn't use power strip. Will that give better results?

Possibly, read the FW thread as there is a 700 post thread, and a lot of powerstrip tweaks.

Use DVI if you can of course.

Yep, I bought a dvi cable yesterday. I got it when I picked up the componets for his new computer to go along with it. He was running pII 400 Mhz.

Off to FW

This is excellent news, I just wish they would post it on their website and/or simply put the price @ 999 w/o a rebate. Then the PM'ing would be incredible.

Has any found optimum calibration settings for this tv? I saw the picture of one before calibration and after and the after looked 10x better.

I doubt this is "optimal", but for mine I ran the MCE 2005 calibration and basically just changed the following;

Brightness:44
Contrast:55
Lamp(forget what is called exactly, but has low, normal, bright): Normal
Red Color: 46 (rough guess off the top of my head)

and I use DVI through my pc and powerstrip to get "pixel perfect" resolution.

But the main changes were the brightness, and contrast. Would love to hear how others did it.

My question about DVI is due to the fact that not all DVI connectors are the same and I was wondering if ATI's cards (with DVI) would be able to be connected to this input?

If your card has a DVI connector it will work with it.

I have 2 ATI AIW cards that only have DVI connector on the card. If you want VGA hook up you have to put an adapter on the card or buy a DVI to VGA cable. I just put a different ATI in my dads computer I built him yesterday and it had 2 connectors on card DVI and VGA.

I don't know how to really explain it but there are 2 types of DVI ports DVI-D and DVI-A. DVI-A has more pins and carries VGA and DVI signals example my ATI AIW. DVI-D doesn't carry VGA. So you wouldn't be able to use an DVI to VGA adapter. I am not sure if the card I put in yesterday was DVI-D but if it was I could bolt the adapter on to the connector but I wouldn't get any signal for vga device.

Maybe someone can explain it better than me.

Man, of all the types of rebates you could lose, this one ranks right up there as THE one you don't lose. Hope someone can help you out, maybe if no one comes forward, the store would be able to help you. Afterall, you have their receipt, you should be recognizable to the salesperson. Good luck.

I called the store and the manager said he WOULD help but they sold out so he cant get me a photocopy, he said they are all the same BUT he doesnt have any in the store.

I cut it out put it in my pocket walked to kinkos boom gone.. I could not believe it.

Both UPCs? I only found one, the serial number barcode is there twice but that cant be used for rebate purposes, I only found 1 UPC sticker.

And thanks for the floor compliment

How about some more sweet shots of your TV with some material on the screen?

Here is another pic, I was comparing both of them earlier today.

here is a quick screen shot of 720P HD on my 42 plasma not tweaked at all and also low lighting

Here is a link to my Home Theatre directory. All custom work of course done by myself to save tons of money (its still work in progress) I wouldn't be on anandtech hotdeals if I had money to pay somebody else to do it

RE: UPCs.

Hmmm...The place you removed your UPCs from is VERY different than the place I removed mine from. My box is (apparently) a generic box used for both 27" and 30" LCD monitors. On the two sides of the box (not the ends as apparently is the case for you) there are two bar codes pre-printed on the box. One is for the 27" monitor, one is for the 30" monitor. These are NOT stickers, and they are NOT on the ends of the box. When I bought mine, the guy scanned the barcode I'm talking about, so I assume this is the correct UPC...

Can anyone tell me where the remote, manual, and cables are at? Are they in a little separate box, inside the foam, or what? FYI: I have the soft, squishy foam so I should have the old crappy remote. There's talk over at FW regarding the Soft foam (old remote & firmware) and the hard, plastic-y foam (newest of both)/

The one I got had the hard, plastic-y foam, new remote, etc. The accessories were in a small brown box.

Kwad, was the box tucked inside the foam, anchored at the bottom, or just floating around the box? Thanks

Can anyone with a soft foam packed Olevia chime in?
