I swam through highschool and most swimmers are picky about their goggles and suits. Certain ones fit better than others and unless you know exactly what they like you're going to get the wrong one. For things like duffel bags it will be easier for you to pick out one that they'll like.

Other than that, get them food. Swimmers eat like you wouldn't believe, they are human garbage cans. I was eating over 6,000 calories a day when I was swimming.
