Please indicate which model you have, and let me know if you can see any light from around the edges of the mouse. I cant tell from pics I've seen if the light from the LED will shine through or not. I'm going to get either an MX300 or MX500 and mod it with a blue LED like I've done to all my optical mice, and I'd like some of the light to be visible.
Edit: Based on the responses you guys gave me, I ordered an MX500 from Monarch. I decided that since the MX300 wouldn't show much light, I'd go with the nicer version. It arrived a few days ago. I changed the LED to a 5mm Blue, 3500mcd, 3.6V LED I bought from Lsdiodes.com. I noticed no difference in performance. With my last mouse, performance got better. Maybe it's because this mouse is so perfect already. I can't get it to skip/mess up no matter how fast I try to move it. I'm using a dark blue, cloth mousepad, so I guess it works well with blue LEDs.

I really like the MX500. There's only one problem I've had. Twice, I've typed a message in a forum, then quickly moved my hand over to the mouse...and bumped into the Back button. GREAT So I lose the post and have to type it again. It's because I'm accustomed to the shorter Logitech Optical mouse I've been using for the past year or two.
