just bought a Nikon to Olympus mount adapter on ebay. Gonna try it to see if it works with my friend's 50mm f/1.4 AI (i believe it's an AI and not a Pre-AI). If it does, I will probably get a 55mm f/3.5 micro and a 50 f/1.4 Nikkor from ebay for less than 100 bucks.




OP:


1) this is the 'cheapest' macro lens. Canon and Nikon both has a 50mm f/2.5 at roughly $250.

2) i only wish the focal length is a bit longer.

3) Olympus also has a macro 50mm f/2.0, but the magnification is 0.5 and not 1.0. and it cost $400.

well if you want auto focus and auto aperture then olympus and sigma are about your only choices.


if you don't, the E-410 is very adaptable. pre-AI nikon macros are inexpensive.

urggg, back to the temptation I have weeks ago: a Nikon-to-Olympus mount. That it s a pandora box of buying more lenses, eventually migrating to Nikon with the D90, and then going full frame with the D700. yes, it will happen, it is inevitable. ;p

I've mounted pre-AI lenses on my D50 and they worked fine. I haven't tried AI or AI-s lenses, though.

All current Nikon DSLRs use the F mount, which has been around since 1959. The only lenses that won't mount on all cameras are Pre-AI lenses and some Pre-AI invasive Fisheyes that will break the mirror on some cameras (but they can still be used with mirror lockup on other cameras).

Also, the midrange and professional models (D200, D300, D2, D3) have full matrix metering abilities with AI and AI-S lenses, so really the only thing you have to do manually is focus.

all i know is that using old nikon glass on my current canon is less complicated than using old nikon glass on many current nikons

Pre-AI Nikons will only mount on D40, D40x, D60.
AI and AIS lenses can mount on any DSLR.

I have many lenses from both categories and they mount just fine on my D40. Just no metering.

Wrong. I have mounted my pre-AI Nikkor-S 50mm f/1.4 and pre-AI Nikkor-Q 135mm f/3.5 on my D50 and taken several photos that rank among my favorites.

If you have a pre-AI lens, and the edge of the mount has a ridge, then it has been converted.

If you have a pre-AI lens, and the edge of the mount has a ridge, then it has been converted.

Positive. The lenses were originally purchased along with a Nikkormat FTn.
