i'll make this short:
i work at an elementary school. there was a christmas song show-thing this morning, with all the kids and the parents. i was standing in the back, when in between two of the classes a really cool teacher i'm friends with (all of them, really) came around to say hi to me. we were talking for a little bit when she pulled a few silver dollars out of her pocket and said, "look what i kiked." then, she immediately followed that by semi-repeating herself, saying "look what i confiscated." then she had to go to get her class ready to go on. she may have said something else, but i cannot think of anything else she would have said that would have sounded like "kiked," and still mean the same thing. i'm not going to bring it up with the principal, but i would like to talk to her about it, at least to clarify what she said. thoughts?

edit from the link Linflas posted, i now fully believe she said "kiped." i'm embarrassed to think she would have said "kiked," but now i know better and can laugh it off.

however, to all that accused me of being too "pc," i am *probably* safe in assuming that you are all white middle class males of christian descent (though whether or not you actually practice a religion now isn't relevant) therefore, you have been insulated for at least the past 50 years from being the target of any form of bigotry. you don't know what it's like, you cannot understand how it feels to be the subject. if she had actually said "kiked," the worst thing i could have done would be to let it go. words are not just words, they are opinions and feelings and in some cases, prejudices that if left unchecked can become worse, and passed down generation to generation. i'll grow a backbone when you grow a conscience.

edit 2 sorry linflas, adul posts everywhere and i've always associated the wildcat with adul

Let it go I often hear and still use the term "Gyped". "Man that guy gyped me!" as in Gypsied, or ripped off. I only realized what it really meant in later years, but when I use the term I'm not thinking of gypsies ripping me off. Sometimes I've heard people say "Man, I got jewed!" which is the same thing. I can see how that is more offensive, but I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I've never heard that before in my life, either.

I think the issue is: Why is the teacher stealing money from elementary school students?

Maybe she didn't fully know what "kiked" means. I don't really know either. I know it's a derogatory term, but I've never really heard it used...

Are you sure she didn't say "kiped"? Not sure if that is the correct spelling but it would sound pretty close to kiked which I have never heard before.

So, uh, a "beloved patriot" is a Jewish person then?

Why is she stealing money from little kids?

yeah, beloved patriot is the derogatory word for jew

But anyway I don't think you need to take this to the principal. What damage has she done to you by saying that word? It's just a stupid word.

Nope, that is the origin -- any decent dictionary will confirm. And dolph like everyone says, it's most likely either another word or being used like "gypped" where the person doesn't even realize it was originally a racial slur.

I had always heard that it was definition "a" in the following link.
Funny how something that started out so innocently came to be such an insult.

She might have said it incorrectly.

If she "stole" something she "kiped" it not "kiked" it. Stop looking for racism where it doesn't exist.

Yes, but she may have said "kipe" as someone above linked to the definition, and which means "steal" without any racial reference.

Interesting link. Growing up in Southern California I'd never heard of the word "beloved patriot" until Michael Jackson used it as a slur in one of his later (post-success) songs where he apparently said "jew me, beloved patriot me" using it as a verb.
