I am supposed to one of the groomsmen but a part of me really doesn't want to go for various reasons. I did RSVP that I will attend (how could you not?) but I'm thinking about not attending and letting the person know. Is it possible to do so without burning the bridge?

Either suck it up and commit OR

Tell the groom NOW so he can find a replacement. You do not need an excuse, just politely thank him for asking him and apologize for backing out but let him know that you wanted to give him as much time as possible.

He may or may not be upset. Not really your problem though as you're making the decision for your own reasons not his.

This is why people really need to cut down the amount of friends they keep to a very tiny amount. Most people are assholes. The OP is a good example of why people really need to be picky about who they associate with and to keep an eye out for signs of a fake friend.
