It's certainly the best-looking of the three cars by a large margin, and still would be if the standard-bearer Camry were included.

man, that's a sexy looking car. i always liked the previous gen mazda 6 styling but the interior wasn't impressive vs the accord. looks like this one brings another true competitor to the table

I really like the new Mazda 6. A manual trans and a hatch would have me trade up. Both are features that I love on my current Mazda6.

I have a 2005 hatchback. Its nice and everything but seems a pretty big downgrade from the G35 that I was used to. Also the Mazda dealers really suck around here. You really have to fight for them to fix anything listed under a TSB or recall. Never had that problem with the Infiniti dealers who actually encouraged me to bring my car in for any kind of work that they fixed for free under warranty.
The new 6 would however be great for anyone who doesn't have too much expectations and wants a car in the Accord/Camry class as this car trumps those proper fair and square.

So your ~$22k family sedan was a downgrade from your $32k+ sports car? I'm shocked :Q

It's just a better car than the Accord and Camry. The Fusion and Milan are also better cars (they are sister cars to the Mazda6).

I sat in one when I was getting my 3 serviced. It's a sharp looking car, very premium feel. Trunk is huge too.
I like the new Accord, but probably would pick the 6 over it.

Yep. The G35 that I had was 4 door and also a family sedan.
btw, I noticed that you conveniently removed my other comment about the Mazda dealer not being very supportive of their customers to try and provide your own sarcastic comment in there.

I wonder why they tested the 2009 Mazda 6 against the 2008 Accord and 2008 Altima? Aren't the 2009 Hondas and Nissans out yet? And if they aren't, alright but I wonder how much a difference comparing the same model years would make?

None, what-so-ever.

They are sister cars to the PREVIOUS generation Mazda 6, which was widely regarded as a non-competitive entry. The Fusion was slapped six ways till Sunday in every comparison test I've read in the last year. The only car worse than the Fusion is the Dodge Avenger, which is considered to be roughly equivalent to stabbing yourself in the eye.

The new Mazda 6 looks like a great option, but it does not share anything of note with the Fusion or Milan.

please. the fusion/milan doesn't hold a candle to even my previous gen accord let alone the newer refined one in terms on quality and performance, especially the 6mt coupe. the previous generation mazda 6 was a piece of crap in the interior, it didnt even have coinholders. this new mazda 6 will give it a run for its money though

well, by itself no, but its alot of the little engineered things like that that pushed me toward getting the accord!

The new Mazda6 is pretty darn nice. I sat in one a couple weeks ago and its leaps and bounds better in interior quality compared with the Camcord and makes the Altima look like something from Fisher Price. The Camcords are way overhyped IMO. With the exception of their ability to hold their value well, they offer nothing of note over their competitors. Hell, even Hyundai builds a better breadn'butter IMO.

Consumer Reports called, they need you to come over real quick to clean their toilets. Motor Trend called to, they need to get them some Starbucks.

Honestly the domestic "quality" and "refinement" bullshit is so 1980s. It's obvious you have spent zero time in either the Fusion or Milan. Listening to ignorant people regurgitate what they read in this weeks auto-rag is tiresome to say the least.

Damn....I like the Euro styling on the 6 and its not too surprising that it beats the econoboxes handily. The only disappointment is that there's no hatch or Speed option! I was sitting in one the last time I was at the dealer. I wonder why the compared it to the bottom of the class 08 Nissan and 08 Honda?

When I was looking at cars last year (2007 model year) I looked at all three (Fusion, Milan, 6). The Fusion/Milan looked and felt like a cross between a Crown Vic and a Taurus and was not any fun to drive. The only benefit was the touchscreen sync system (micro$oft of course). The 6 was just so much more fun to drive and the manumatic was awesome as well. I got a $200 GPS, put in a direct connection line in for $100 (which the 09 has from factory)...and its basically the same....but SO much more fun to drive!
