That doesn't say much. Peak power ratings are usually pretty worthless. Look at the RX-8. It looks like this engine has a lot more useable power and torque. At 6.7s 0-60mph, it's also quicker than the old '99 Si.

considering the older model having the same power and more torque, both at lower rpm's, and in 2001, i don't see the excitement. just bring over the damn type-R!!!!!

The engine is essentially the same as the type-R, same engine/cylinder head. Manifolds different but that doesn't matter so much.

The slight differences in power can be explained by the new SAE power rating procedure.

Besides, they qoute the new SI as sub 20K, you will never see a type-R for that price.

If this in reference to the old famil engines (pre 2002), those were all B series, current honda 4s are K series. Peak power/power to displacement doesn't show a big improvement, but like mentioned, the powerband of the newer engines is wider. The current engines have cam phasing, direct ignition/better electronics.

I've read several writeups from people who build road racing hondas or run honda tuning shops and the opinion is basically unanimous that the new series are better than the old ones.

The concept looked cooler IMO as well for a few reasons....

#1. Front and side facias have more definite lines on the concept . The production car looks unfinished and cheap w/o them.
#2. Headlights are much more modern looking on the concept
#3. Maybe its the color, or the angle, but the upper crease along the side of the car looks more defined on the concept, giving it a more aggressive stance.

#1 makes the biggest diff IMO...

i think you're wrong, the biggest difference is in the ground effects on the concept. the tiny bit of a front lip and side skirt eccentuate everything. without them, it loses all of its aggressiveness.

I like it, but the gauge cluster design is horrible, and you have to look at that all day.

Ugly as sin, but anything is better than the current incredibly bland driving Civic.

I generally like the looks of the car...nothing fantastic, but definitely a lot better than the old si. Also before you dismiss it, they did mention this about the car:

And on the racetrack, that diff makes all the difference. The Si would handle well without it, but it may be the best handling front-wheel-drive car we've ever tossed around because of it.

maybe they are following the Toyota route.....make your small car (corolla) look like your big (Camry) car but smaller.

Is this the 'New gen Focus' type thing again?

You guys are getting a pretty weak version of the concept, whereas in the UK...

I really like the 2-door hatchback that Europe has, the rear suspension is a torsion bar on the 2-door
