Wow! I'm so glad I didn't jump the gun and order too fast....

Look what I found!

Now I know most of you guys are tower nuts, but I've been a PC user since before the XT days, I prefer my machine to be a desktop, sitting in front of me where I can easily access the drives and just looks snazzy! Yep... I got a thing for desktops.

But most desktops are OOOOOGly! (Then again, so are many towers!)

EDIT: Umm..... now that I think of it... the CoolerMaster 610/620 does look nicer... and smaller. [sigh] If money were no object and I could afford to eat the restocking fees I'd just try 'em both.

The CoolerMaster 610 / 620 mATX desktops look nicer for HTPCs, assuming your AV components are black. It's a nice-looking case too though.

Did I even ONCE mention HTPC? That's not the plan.

I must say, I wish it was ALL black, not a silver front. It's still afully nice.... somewhere around $90US or so.

The more I look at it, the more I think I prefer the CoolerMaster 620.....

It's mATX though, which means I'd have to sell my Itel Retail Edge package (gasp! But... but... that's not allowed!!) :Q

Or not buy it at ALL and just get an AMD machine...... hmmm....

And this is where those who know me will just groan and say, "There's BlueMax, waffling and thinking/debating too much AGAIN!"

It's a tough decision to get something nice, but have a VERY limited budget to do it with....

Heh, no thanks. They're such a hassle, where do you put them? The only place is under a monitor, which makes the monitor sit way too high.

I ran plenty of Macs on desktops (up to my last mac, a G3) and I swore to myself to never again return to that horrid form factor. They're just too inconvenient for me.

My monitor is sitting up on a riser as we speak. You're not supposed to look down on a monitor... bad for posture and eyes....

Actually the optimum monitor viewing angle is looking slightly down. I don't remember the number of degrees but it's just a little bit. 10 degrees maybe?

I agree, even though some of these do look very nice they are a hassle
+ putting a 19" or so monitor on it is a bit problematic due to the weight as well

by the way Im gonna sound stupid, but oh well, whats HTPC ? sorry

I got a CoolerMaster 620 as a HTPC (i know you didn't say anything about HTPC ).

I love the case. Quality is really good and there are lots of room for drives and disks.
And everything is hidden behind 2 doors that open when you push them. If you want a good quality and nice looking case I would recommend the CoolerMaster 620.

Hm yeah, it does seem that way, but at a job I used to work at, we had hundreds of HP Kayak desktop workstations (PIIs) with big Nokia 21" monitors on top of them, and it had no effect on them. But I do imagine that it does depend on the case. Those machines were packed kinda tight, so there was lots of bracing everywhere. A lot of towers just have one side that pops open and consists of nothing but a piece of sheet metal with no real support for something heavy being on top of it, but I would hope that any desktop case would have the extra supports like those HPs did.

To me it is a box. I don't care one bit how a box looks. It could be a used cardboard food container for all I care. I also do perfer desktops - usually easier access to the insides, and puts the important things right at your hand location (in front of the keyboard), takes up less deskspace (since it is under the monitor) or if you put your tower on the floor you don't have the trouble of kicking it all day long. Plus I like the center of my monitor right at eye height - even though this isn't the "ergonomical" place to put the monitor.

I don't mean to be rude, but that looks like something a small child would want. Like those Barbie computers. I'd be embarrassed to let others see that setup.

I already own one. It too was my dream case when I saw it. I have this desk and wanted a case that would fit under the monitor platform which houses my two 19" monitors. This case fit the bill perfectly. It's a very nice case and I've been impressed with it. Finally got rid of my big tower.

As they say, there's no accounting for taste (Hang...). Once again I suggest you look under Athenatech. If you only need one 5" drive and can use microATX, I don't think there is a better design out there than the A100 series - the same internal chassis is also used in the Ahanix Blu I/II and the Maxtop compact desktops. The similar sized Chenbro is also nice.
