My biggest beefs with Amazon is their shitty search engine and their lack of customer service.

If you go through the various links to search for, say Intel I5-2500K, not only will you get the processor, but other processors as well, and even motherboards, pre-built computers, and AMD products too.

IMO, their customer service definitely leaves a lot to be desired.

Amazon's search engine is pretty horrible. I typically look up the item on Google's shopping search engine and then click through over to Amazon if they're anywhere near the top of the lowest price list.

However, their CS has always been amazing. They've gone above and beyond several times and have even helped me contact manufacturers to get rebates pushed through the system.

Agree with the search. Part of the problem is 3rd party vendors will have different product descriptions or sku #'s that will cause duplicate items to show up in search.

Interesting responses to this thread. I saw 25+ replies and figured I was gonna get flamed. But no one is really defending Newegg.

I do agree that the Amazon search sucks. Sometimes you can't even be "sure" what product you are buying, because there is no way to really track model numbers and such. But for most things it is as good or better than Newegg for sure.

Because you have a legitimate gripe about newegg and their service.

I found what I need at b&H photovideo cheaper than newegg... plus I did not get dinged with the 9.25% sales tax. Don't get me wrong... I like newegg... but their prices are not as competitive as they once were.

Yeah, I've easily spent over $10,000 there over the years, but I will never buy from them again. The customer service and return policies are so bad, and meanwhile they are great at Amazon or Costco.

Not trying to knock the OP, but why wouldn't the price in cart and particularly the checkout screens be binding?

They should synchronize their search indexes with real-time prices, but unfortunately this is a bug in their system. I do agree that they should've considered customer history and granted this request anyway.

Returning anything to newegg will slap you with a restocking fee even if its never opened. There customer service has gone down till since they started making those stupid commercials.

Thing like cpu's, flash drives and ram i will get from newegg or microcenter, everything else i get from amazon.

in the past that didn't stop some from flaming teh poster.

but time changes adn newegg is NOT the company it was. it used to have amazing CS and prices. Some were pretty loyal to the company even when the company was wrong.

They are now a big company that has TV commercials and grandmas talking about the toaster that is on sale there. They will never be the same Newegg we always loved.

RIP

Oh, I don't know. Last month, when hard drive prices suddenly surged sky-high, I found a 1.5TB Seagate listed in their Pricewatch ad at almost $20 less than what their website had it. I kept both windows open, purchased the hard drive on their website, and got my order number. I then called their customer service folks, explained where I had found the lower priced ad of theirs, and she put me on hold for ~3-4 minutes. When she came back on the phone, she confirmed the difference, and told me she was crediting my card back immediately (but it might take 3-5 days to show up in my credit card account).

Got my statement this month, and the original charge was there, along with the credit back. Great deal, no hassles......exactly what Newegg is known for, and why they have such a great reputation.

Start slamming them on their resellerratings with the details. Maybe (hopefully) it'll make them open their eyes.

You can contact CS to get the 20% restocking fee credited back in most cases. My issue is this step shouldn't be necessary and isn't necessary with many of their competitors (e.g. Amazon). This is one of the reasons I do about 10% of the business with them that I used to do. Really, for me to buy anything from Newegg anymore it has to be a substantially good deal. Sad to say, but they're pretty much in the same boat with Best Buy with my disposable income anymore.

That is actually an excellent idea. I might email CS and bring their attention to this thread as well. There's a lot of good constructive criticism and customer feedback to be found here.

Newegg is still decent. Better than a lot of other sites, but I do see them slipping.

Those "sale" E-mails are getting irritating in that they are coming out WAY too often.

MONDAY DEALS!
MIDWEEK MADNESS!
DAILY DEAL!
WEEKEND MADNESS!
[HOLIDAY] MADNESS!

OK, I get the point. Madness.

Also, the marketing is plain (not including any links to ratings on the sale page... I remember them doing that in the past though). Some of their cheap shipping practices, etc.

They also need to get rid of the section selling toaster ovens, vaccumes and pool filters. ENOUGH. I am not going to The Wiz, and that "branching out" is the very thing that killed the Wiz.

I still do a Google search and a PriceGrabber search before buying though. They have not WRONGED me (yet) and have, in the past, been rather gracious with any mistakes made.

I am still not 100% sold on Amazon just because of them only being a front-man. Amazon Marketplace being the one that still gives me the willies, but I am willing to give them a go around as well.

So, instead of posting to a tech site, maybe you should just mail them with your complaints... but just be careful not to be too bitter about it.

Just like many things in life, the louder you yell, the less they hear, but the more people that talk, the more that gets done.

From my experience with newegg, there is NO way I am going to defend them.

Me - can you look at my account, I have an question about billing
newegg customer service - No I will not look at your account, we do not make mistakes like that
Me - will you "please" just look at my account
newegg customer service - no, I will not look at your account
newegg customer service - is there anything else I can help you with today?
Me - I just want someone to look at my account and fix the problem
newegg customer service - we do not make mistakes like that, so there is no use in looking at your account

And that is how it went for almost a week.

Amazon is getting almost all of my business. I got prime a couple of months ago on a trial. Thought I would just cancel it after the trial was up but realized Amazon was my main site to order stuff.

2 years ago I bough a Samsung 43" 1080p 120 MHZ TV and was nervous about getting a TV through the mail but Amazon's white glove delivery was outstanding. The TV was also $500 less then every other sight.

If you want the lowest price buy.com seems to win most of the time but they are not the best website to deal with. I bought a PSP when they came out and never got an E-mail saying it was shipped I called them and they gave me the info for the shipping they are not the fastest but I did get the PSP the cheapest.

I don't think it can be considered a bait and switch (firstly because they are changing the price, not the product), and they could just defend it as the buyer clicking add to cart after they made a price change. It probably happens a lot.

Actually its really hard to say anything is bait and switch online. There is a huge loophole where the retailer is not responsible for posted ads and prices on their website if it hosted and maintained by a third party.

I just posted in the Amazon prime thread, but I'll post here. Newegg used to be my goto place. I've had over 100 orders at Amazon this year(not all computer parts, mind you) but only like 4 at Newegg.

I love Amazon prime (it's worth double the price) and it really does pay for itself quickly.

Nowadays I browse for parts on newegg since their interface is a lot better, and then do a final quick browse/search on amazon to order stuff.

Ditto...

15% restocking fee and pay for return shipping...no thanks.

After 2 chats on two separate days with no results, I finally picked up the phone and called Newegg this morning about the discrepancy in the monitor warranty.

Here's the information from the original product information page:

(the price is different from what I paid, that expired on 11/21)
You notice, it says 3 year manufacturer's warranty.

BUT, Samsung says different:

After spending a couple of hours in their chats, I see Newegg changed the product information page to reflect the one-year warranty:

So...when I called them this morning, they offered me a 3-year extended warranty at no cost. (I have to pay for it...but it's supposed to be credited back to me.)

As long as this happens as expected, I'll give the Egg a  for service...and a  for their chat service.

I thought it was common knowledge that newegg chat was useless and you have to call to get anything done.
