Hi

I have big speakers (not shielded) on a desk which has a 2 cm thick Styrofoam and a computer underneath with ~50 cm of space between (see draw here: http://www.image-share.com/ijpg-1829-110.html)

My question is if I put a computer underneath , will the computer be effected by the speakers? if yes, what can I do to shield it?

Also I want to know if EM gets weakened in the transition between intermediaries (air , Styrofoam etc)?

Thank you and sorry for my English.

Shouldn't be a problem.

And don't worry about your English, it's better than some supposed native speakers.

Really, NOTHING on a modern computer can be bothered by a static magnetic field. The ONLY exception might be a hard drive, but those are completely encased in metal, so it would take one heck of a strong field to bother those.

** BEGIN EDIT **
Well, a magnet with the strength of an MRI machine might cause your computer to fly around the room -- that might be problematic.
** END EDIT **

Now, a high-frequency moving field MIGHT induce currents big enough to be a problem. Speakers (audio fequency) do not count as high frequency, so I would not worry about them.

Back in the good old days, magnets could cause a problem with floppy discs. I assume that you are not installing a floppy drive

** Begin Edit **
The reason for "shielded speakers" was simply for the old days when everybody had CRT monitors. A magnetic field would cause the image to shift and screw up the colors. You also used to place you speakers right next to your monitor. An LCD monitor can completely ingore a magnetic field since it workes by different principles.
** End Edit **
