Egghead goin done the tube?

I'm not a person who really follows the "market" and I don't pretend to be. I was watching ZDTV last week and they said Egghead is having problems finanacilly and may be going out? Is it true? There shipping has gone up, maybe a sign. They are my favorite place for computer cases and NIC's.

about 3 months ago my roommate won a 50spindle of cdr's from egghead(onsale) and they took his money. About a month later he called asking where they were and they said they were on backorder. They said it would be another month. He just told them to cancel it.

I think it is pathetic that they held an auction and then didn't send the product and on top of it made no effort to inform him.

Ha, Egghead closed all their B&M's because they couldn't compete with the likes of CompUSA. Now they can't even compete in the internet market either. Too bad for them.

Yup, i was just about to say that. They closed down all of their local retail stores cuz they wanted to focus on internet sales. Unfortnteley for them, i think when they did that, internet commerce wasn't a big trend, so they went in to early and didn't know what to do. Then when the internet commerce really picked up, they found themselves sorta CATCHING UP, even though they were one of the first, hahahaahhaahaha.

"Were" is the key word. More and more products are showing up at suggested list. It never ceases to amaze me that a business in financial trouble will raise their prices in a desparate bis to survive. Common sense says this is a STUPID more.

What people seem to forget, as they get blinded by the dollars is customer service. If you don't have it, the ship is gonna sink. Egghead didn't have it and I as only one customer have had more than one scuffle with them. One of them was pretty serious and it cost me alot of lost money and time. People talk when they are dissatisfied. It takes fewer angry customers than you think, telling all their friends where NOT to do business, then that person tells someone else and it perpetuates.
Deceptive practices have no doubt had an impact on legal expenses as well.

If Onvia keeps the free shipping, great prices the coupons with pointclick kicking another 10% back then other places are going to suffer a major heart attack.I sure wouldnt want to compete against them

Egghead has a secret plan.
I was checking out an HP5si printer up for auction and the price seemed right until I scrolled down to the bottom of the page and discovered that they want $350 to ship the thing. I wonder how many people are burned by these totally off the scale shipping charges?

I got an interesting spam email today...it puzzled me at first, b/c it was sent with my Dad's name in the To field, but to my email address. Now, there are only two places I've signed up on the net like that. Once at buy.com, and another time at egghead.com. But, at buy.com, I have two accounts, with two different email addresses...and one is in my name. The Egghead account is not that way. Since I only got one copy of the spam, the only place they could have gotten my email address was from Egghead. The message was from IntellectExchange.com, did anyone else get it?

Overpriced!?! Egghead sold stuff for what we get it from our wholesalers for!

ahh. Too bad. I got 2 monitors from Onsale (not auction). Both of them were good. Never had problems. I guess I was lucky.

But compuwiz1 is right. Customer service is a big thing. Why waste money on advertisements if you have bad customer service.

Compucheap is an example. No ads. But the customers are doing the advertisements for them.

I have had excellent luck on the auction part of Egghead/Onsale. Have gotten loads of good quality hardware and hardware refurbs. and have never had a problem. However they are not auctioning the quality of product as in the past, regular prices are creeping upward and they gave up on free delivery. Damn shame.

I hope you weren't getting ripped off by the Auction site. The prices do look good, but 95% of the time, I want to bid for some refurb product, and the onsale shop has the same thing brand new for LESS.
