I have to seriously downsize my setup due to constant moving..
I have been looking into eGPUS for a laptop, but I currently run a 3x1440p setup from a large PC with a 6800XT. The screens have to stay as I use all 3 regularly.
If I sell the PC, but keep the 6800XT and acquire a windows (not Mac) laptop with usb-C, can i run all 3 monitors from the eGPU?
Im a bit confused as to the specifics as there seems to be lots of disinfo about specs/performance/compatibility and various USB standards. I understand the eGPUs feed the video back into the laptop, but this is specifically what I don't want to do, not least because of the massive drop in FPS compared to running screens directly
What do I specifically need on the laptop to run an eGPU in terms of USB specifications? What kind of eGPU is best for a 6800XT?
I don't mind if the laptop screen is not used (black or off) when I'm running the 3x external displays if this setup is possible.
I'm also not to keen on the possibility of the laptops CPU being thrashed just to run the eGPU - but does this still occur when not feeding the video back into the internal display?
