I am guessing that it was on a timer. That way you don't rely on the idiots inside to push the button they just have to drive a car into or very close to a crowd.

the situation developed very quickly and those folks probably didnt even realize that it was an IED heading their way. Either way the tank crew deserves the top honor and they are certainly not slacking off and is extremely vigilant hence the quick reaction.

Well, maybe they think that you you need at least 2 guys just to make sure that the first guy doesn't chicken out and run away before the bomb is in place. Or, more likely, they want a guy ready kill the other guy if he's about to get busted by security.

Or, maybe these 4 guys were all troublemakers and they wanted to get rid of them. I'd imagine that office politics in organizations like ISIS are fascinating.

Or they may have no idea there is a bomb in the car and just think they are going on a 4 man shooting rampage at a checkpoint. The people that do this aren't exactly mental giants but they can put together that sending one gunman on a rampage is kinda fishy. So you get four idiots together say here take this car and ram it into that checkpoint then jump out and shoot everyone. The gunmen don't need to know that it is actually a bombing instead.
