it wouldnt matter what speeds i offer.

my 3 reasons for modifying these files is....
1) to see if the stock bios is bugged and causing bad OCing
2) to unlock dual mode clocking
3) to unlock dual mode cooling


so far my testing has shown the stock LE bios is bugged and is causing bad OCing.
my modified ultra file is OCing farther
dual mode clocking is not working
dual mode cooling is stuck in 2d mode (but it is quieter!)

I wont be getting my card till wed

I'm wondering if I should at least take off the HS and install AS5 to it, is the HS for the GPU seperate from the ram sink or is it one unit? Someone mentioned that it appeared the GPU had white paste and silver paste re-applied to it. Weird.

i am already OCing 20mhz higher, and the fan is still only in 2d mode! :Q
(i dont think heat is the problem)

let me finish this round of testing, and ill offer the file as soon as i feel it is relatively safe.

i made it to 400mhz core... screenshot

...thats 45mhz further then the stock bios. (no artifacts)
not sure how much farther it can go.

Well, if any of you guys looking for a 2D/3D fan control, look no further; use Gainward's expertool (free download @ gainward.com). It is a VGA OC utility with seperate 2D/3D fan control, and will work with the eVGA Limited Edition nVIDIA GeForce 6800 Video Card.

Run heavy benchmarks and stuff for many many hours and if its still stable after that, you may have stumbled on an amazing revelation.

I mean, do you really think that these 'underclocked' Ultras were the result of bugged BIOSs and not physical weaknesses? If this can be investigated further (maybe RivaTuner 15.3?) and these puppies can safely be clocked up to 'normal', it would be quite the steal of the century.

Pardon my asking, but what's the big deal about this 2d/3d fan? Like what's the advantage of being able to manage or manually set fan speeds differently for different applications? Don't these things autothrottle somewhat anyway?

Hmmm. Noticed that that bios has a voltage of 1.5. Im guessing maybe that could be responsible for the higher OC. Was the original voltage 1.3 as with the GT's or 1.4 like the ultras?

yes 1.5v, stock 6800LE is 1.4v.

i tried 1.5v on the stock LE bios file ~ but it didnt help 1 bit
something is odd with the stock bios, so i went to an ULTRA bios.

I found my first problem with this card!!!

Actually it's a problem with the DFI Lanparty 250GB. When I pull my computer out of standby the fan on the card doesn't come back on. Not a big deal...never put my computer in standby.

I found this out while playing Doom3 and getting TONS of artifacts. Figured something was up so I exited and my temps were at 112C. Luckily I figured this one out quick and it shouldn't be a problem now. Something to keep in mind if you have the DFI board.

P.S. This card isn't OCed on my computer.

That problem might not be limited to just your board. Twice I've glanced through my case windows and noticed the fan on my NV5 wasn't running. Cant remember if it was after coming out of standby or not. I'll test it out and the bios thugsrook is working on when I can manage to pull my girlfriend away from sims 2.

For me it's definitely a standby problem...SO FAR.

It happened after the one time I tested out standby on the board. To check I tried again and the fan stopped again. I'm just glad this isn't really a big problem.

it doesnt fix the 2d/ 3d mode switching ~ but it does allow me to control the fan speed.

well got mine thursday. unlocked pipes and all. I tested 3dmark05 at stock speeds and got 3571. with 3dmark03 i get 10k+. The 05 bench seemed low, is it?

This is running on an Intel P4 2.4@3.2ghz, 1GB memory,Abit IC7 and a antec 550w psu.
