Thugs, you are fabulous. I was successful on the first try using LE-GT.rom (1.4v) and clocking to 400-1100. Temps at rest about 62 with ambient 38. Both of these are about 6-8 degrees above the starting temps and thus, as per your post, they may not be accurate. But even if they are overstating the temp, the processor is till fine. Expertool does seem to change the fan speeds on "fixed". I cannot confirm that it works on "dynamic" either way.

Is there any reason to overclock the 2D to Ultra speed...or just the 3D settings give benefits?

Thank you,

Is it possible to boot to cd-rw or an open cd? I just got my card today, what programs are you using to flash?

no, the 400mhz GT files did not/will not work correctly.
...2d mode MUST be @ exactly 350mhz, no higher no lower.

youll need to OC 3D core to 400+mhz yourself, no way around it.

i havent been able to confirm that yet.
(IE: it doesnt work for me, only 2D @ 350mhz does)

why would you want 2d mode higher anyways?

Aonic, I saw you put two bios disks up, one here and one on bleedingEdge forum. What's the difference between the two?

I'll be flashing my card later tonight when I get back from class and can play around more.

Hopefully my Newegg card gets here tommorrow

I ordered mine from ZipZoom,i'll post in here once i get it and let everyone know if i'm the first to get one from them.

Disk 1:
Containts LE-GT (new one) from thugs,.. but the rest are modded by me + LE bios
More Info: http://files.aonic.net/help.txt
Download: http://files.aonic.net/eVGA-BIOS-FLASH-DISK2.zip

Disk on BE:
All of thugs bios' + LE bios
More Info: http://files.aonic.net/thug_help.txt
Download: http://files.aonic.net/Thug-Bios-Flash-Disk.zip

I just remembered.. the boot disk contains some files that windows likes to hide from the user. so make sure you extract the zip directly to the floppy

Also with the new LE-GT14.rom
I am gettin 47 Amb / 75 Gpu in load
with 30 C system temp

2d mode MUST be @ exactly 350mhz, no higher no lower.

I'm confused. Are you saying that previously with flashing BIOSes, your video card could only go one speed for both 2d and 3d (and that that was bad or at least not preferred)? And that now with the brand new Thug's GT BIOS you can have 2d and 3d different which is the way these cards are normally intended to go?

Also, what's the difference or disadvantage of flashing a card to 400 stock and not overclocking rather than flashing it to 350 stock and needing to overclock to 400+? Am I doing something the 'bad' way by trying to get 400 stock rather than manually OCing on top of a flash? (besides, I thought default stock speeds of Ultras which is what this card was born as was 400 or 425)

ps. what ya'll use to OC, coolbits, RTer or just the drivers themselves?

I Never tested this with Thugs old LE-GT but the modded bios I made out of the Rev 2.0 6800 GT also had dual clock switching.. the LE's bios only had one clock speed, 325/1100 with the GT's and the Ultra's you can have two different speeds for 2D and 3D.

The only disadvantage I see to flashing a card to 400 is that if your 6800 cant handle it, it would be bad..

quote:
2d mode MUST be @ exactly 350mhz, no higher no lower.

I tested that and anything above 350 in 2d mode also had the same temprature

I goto RT and check "Enable driver-level hardware overclocking" and then the "Clock Frequencies" page appears on the nvidia drivers page so I use that

ps. I replyed to your PM.. sorry I took long, I didnt know where the PM's were in this forum

yes this the way the GT/Ultra cards are supposed to be.
the LE did not come this way, and it took quite a bit of experimenting to get dual mode switching to work like a GT/Ultra.

the 6800LE can now work exactly like a 6800Ultra, except its faster

big thx to all the ppl helping out in the BE.com thread, thx to you guys we worked this bug out in just 2 days!

I just RMA'ed my 6800 Limited Edition to eVGA. I requested a billable stamp so I don't have to pay for shipment. They said they don't do that at first, but then I told them that it was defective on arrival, so there's no reason why I should have to pay shipping. Then they agreed to send me a prepaid stamp.

You are saying the sensor that reports temps were off, maybe they are finicky like that? And therefore, they didn't want to scare customers with 'weird' temps all over the charts (like those ppl are posting here)? Never know, good theory...

Yes, big thx to everyone who contributed to this effort. Question tho: was this the only real bug that has now been fixed? Or do you think some minor lesser known bugs and kinks might be worked out in the weeks to come? Some of us more conservative folks may decide to wait if we thought a good likelyhood of better, more stable BIOSes to come later....

temp has nothing to do with 2d/3d mode switching.
its engaged thru DirectX / vid drivers.

while there are a few cards that cant make it to 400mhz (using my files), most are getting to 420+mhz. some as high as 450-460mhz :Q

i think eVGA is just dumping left over stock that will soon be outdated (PCIe & SLI capability).

whatever the reason ~ most of us now have some very cheap 6800Ultras!

I got this card on friday from newegg. Downloaded latest forceware drivers and started doom III. I immedeately noticed some spots on the screen at random location appearing and then disappearing.
I tried overclocking to 350/1200Mhz and the spots increased and I saw some tearing on the screen. I then underclocked to 300/1000Mhz and the spots seemed to disappear.
At the default clocking(325/1100), after an hour of playing the GPU core temps read 62C, which is normal according to the posts I've been reading, So I dont understand where the graphical artifacts are coming from. It looks like it a heat issue, but it's not(?).
If anybody has any ideas, please let me know, otherwise I may have to RMA.

I played Tribes: Vengeance which I belive is much more graphics intense than CS: Source
and my max temp was 69C
then i startup CS:S and its around 73C in 10 mins

this is all with my case temp @ 37C and PCB temp @ around 44~C

on hot days i usually have 41C case so the temps can get up to 80C.. I hope its a GT bios problem.. im gona ask my friend who has a eVGA GT and ask for his temps

and the guy above me: how many watts is your PSU
