$43 seems like a steal for it.

i paid $45 for my 450watt Super-Flower PSU, has a 27A 12V rail. it also uses a 140mm fan, it moves about 40-45cfm silently(also has three speed settings which you adjust). all around fantastic PSU and i love it. i've been using it for about 3 months now without a hitch.

Super Flower = Enermax

Directron sells them.

I guess I got screwed by the guy on Ebay. 362 is what I paid but it included shipping. I'm getting nervous that there is going to be something wrong with my card. It's murphy's law. It was meant to get here yesterday but UPS says it will arrive tomorrow.

Just a quick question, will the bios flash open the closed piplines? (If they are indeed closed). -If not, what should I use to open them. I have used coolbits in the past to OC and I have no idea how to use Riva tuner. Also, how do you tell if the closed pipelines are defective? Apparently the Plain 6800 (non GT or Ultra) comes with 12 open pipelines and four closed, however the four closed pipelines are defective and if opened really don't do anything but cause problems.

Thanks a lot. I'm looking forward to the boot disk you guys are puting together to simplify the BIOS flashing process for us noobs. Thanks so much for all of your efforts!

I think the prices are all automated. When fresh stock comes in, the price drops down and as it dwindles down it rises. Something like > 100 cards=329.99, 50 cards=339, 25=349 etc/ I am sure those aren't correct, but an automated stock keeping/ordering system can easily be set to do this. Same thing happened with Monarch and my processer. I logged on when they just updated the in stock, it was 299. They are the only place you can get a 3500+ Winchester right now, so tons sold quickly.. a few hours later the price was 316.

My card is coming tomorrow, but my Antec 350w PS only has 16A on the 12V rail. Here's my system:

P4 2.4C
4 dual DDR dimms
SATA raptor
DVD burner
add on PCI NIC
floppy drive
and now a 6800 LE...

Can my PS carry the load??

while the amps do matter a lot, sometimes the way different companies measure them is totally different, my 27A could be equal to your 16A for all we know. i'd say your spreading it thin, but it might work perfectly. just try it.

There's a lot of talk about power supplies, so I'll chime in with my setup.

Antec 430 TruePower

Abit IC7
P4 2.8@3.4
5 hard drives
2 sticks of ram
3 optical drives
sound card/firewire card/network card/6800 LE (425/1100)
5 case fans

12v is advertised to have 26A.

There are 3 seperate molex connector lines coming the PSU. I have the card running on its own line. Instructions actually say to give it 2 lines, but that didn't seem to be sensible with all the other stuff I'm running.

Sorry to bother you Thugs, but the vendor that I bought my card from (Still hasn't arrived) claims that the card is a 6800 GT limited edition. -Emphasis on the GT. He also claims that the chipset/core speed are nVIDIA GeForce 6800GT/350MHz. Can this be correct or is he full of sh**. If that's the case, it's set up faster than the ones you guys have been talking about from NewEgg. I wish that I had it here to test it. I'm just really annoyed with this particular vendor. He promised free overnight shipping last week and it's still not here. I get he's not lying when he said overnight shipping....he never said what day he'd ship it.

Sounds like he bought it, flashed it, and tried to resell it for GT prices on e-bay...

Well, he claims it's brand new sealed in box. I talked to him and he really didn't sound like the type to flash it himself. He actually told me that he "Heard of a program that would allow me to unlock the 4 pipelines." I hope that he's simply referring to the eVGA specs sheet that does say that 4 of the pipes are locked. who knows? He said that it says 350Mhz on the box. But we'll see tomorrow assuming he's gotten off his ass and shipped it. He told me that he's personally sold about 40 of these card so far so if anyone wants one, I can point you in the right direction. I think that he's selling them for $350 not including shipping.

When you can buy one from an actual retailer who has some resonsibility for the same price, cheaper, or just a little more, do it. It is just not worth the risk of losing 350 bucks on someone's failed overclock.

I don't think that this guy is overclocking them. He sells everything from Vnidia cards to Motor Oil to Guns on E-bay. He said that he got his numbers from right off of the box. Like I said, I guess I'll find out when it gets here.

Johnnie Annie,

On your ebay auction link, the photo of the box does not match the photo of the card. You can tell because the photo of the box clearly says at the bottom "VGA, DVI.."...but the photo of the card shows two DVI outputs. Something is wrong. If the box is right, then it is indeed a 6800GT; but if the photo of the card is right, then it is likely a card other than the 6800GT that came in that box.

Before you open the box, check the model number that is easily seen through the cover of the box. Then search the eVGA site for that model number to confirm what you have. All the model numbers for the various 6800 series end in 34x. Check it out now; and/or call the Seller immediately and ask him the model number.

Johnnie Annie,

I think that these are the model numbers; but, I do not know absolutely for certain:
n343 6800nu 128mb 2.8ns VGA/DVI
n344 6800GT 256 ddr3 2.0ns VGA/DVI 350/1000
n345 6800u 256 ddr3 1.6ns DUAL DVI
n346 6800u Extreme 256 ddr3 DUAL DVI
n347 6800 Limited Edition (now famous) 256mb DDR3 DUAL DVI
n348 ?
n349 6800GT 256 DDR3 2.0ns VGA/DVI with DOOM3 350/1000

Good luck,
Deskstar

Well it is confusing.. I think the guy just used a picture of the GT box to trick people. He thinks the LE is a lesser card and was trying to pass it off as a GT, when in reality its a better card. If the card has dual DVI and 2 molex connections, its an LE/Ultra. However, if this guy is just a mass reseller, he may have no clue about video cards and in that case there is no telling what you get. The fact he calles them limited editions leads me to believe its the same as everyone elses.

Rhaqz believes he _is_ getting the 6800LE. I think so too. He probably bought a bunch from Newegg or some place else, and is passing them off as GT's since they sell for more than LE.

Mucho thanks to thugsrook and aonic - I flashed to the LE-GT 1.4 bios, used RivaTuner to OC to 400/1150, and it jumped from 10,100 (stock) to 12,024 in 3DMark03. Very simple procedure, even for a noob like me. Farcry is nice and smooth maxed out on all settings.

Vid running at around 52C idle at 40C ambient. Now I just need for that NV5 to arrive - this sucker is LOUD!

I got a new bootdisk for you guys. Built from the ground up using a Windows98 bootdisk (so it can store more bios files).
It now uses menu's to help new people, and has beep's to help you if you mess up your flashing and need to flash back without being able to see the screen.

Features:
http://files.aonic.net/bios/demo.jpg

Installer:
http://files.aonic.net/bios/install.jpg

The Disk:
http://files.aonic.net/bios/evga_bios_kit.exe

I just flashed to LE using the "1" on the main menu, and flashed back using the 1.3v of LE - GT
Worked flawlessly

Here's some power supply (PWS) info to consider as you buy a 6800 LE/GT/Ultra:

For those of you who have a PWS less than 480 watts, since this card uses what appears to be an Ultra fan setup, you should know:

1. eVGA recommends a 480 watt PWS for an Ultra

2. other mfgs recommend down to a 420 watt for an Ultra

3. Some say they have run the Ultra on 350 watt cards with no problems.

4. A PWS probably needs at least 30+ watts ON the 12 VOLT RAIL to be adequate for overclockers with lots of power hungry components.

5. A stable power supply is a VERY good idea for this card, especially if you want to OC it. ... ie, a cheap PWS (say $50 for 500 watts) MAY not power the card so you can open it up fully. (Depends on the quantity, quality & stability of the 12 volt rail power.... 30 watts min).

6. Several manufacturers offer PWS that have shielded or power stabilizing cables that will help supply clean poweron both card connections and that's very important.

7. Skimping on a PWS in a hot setup is short sighted.

8. There are several good quality PWS mfgs, Antec, Enermax, OCZ among them.

I ordered an OCZ 520 watt unit for about $130.00 including shipping from Monarch. They have adjustable pots that are adjustable from the back with LEDs that indicate over or under voltage so that's easy to do, they got good reviews from several thorough reviewers, they have a great set of cables including two individually shielded ones I can plug into the card leaving several hydra headed ones for the rest of the stuff and it has a couple of SATA cables. Finally, they are HEAVY, always a good indicator of quality in a PWS.

While other PWS may run the cards, they'll run better, more stable and faster with a good one, especially if you want to OC.

Well, the one thing that the seller did tell me was that it was really an ultra card and that there was a limited edition sticker over the Ultra. So I'm hoping for an LE. I'll report back here tomorrow...if it finally arrives with the specs. Thanks a lot.

Johnannie,

If it is indeed a Limited Edition with that lable pasted over the "ultra printing", then it is an Ultra that as you know was downclocked by eVGA. Thus, the photo should be what you receive, ie a dual DVI card. The BIOS that comes with the card probably will make significant overclocking unlikely. To get to a stable Ultra, you will need a solid power supply with high 12v rail etc and probably a BIOS flash (see other threads for details).

It is a great card; you will enjoy it.
