You're the third person to offer me...thanks guys.

I'm having second thoughts though. My 9700PRO still runs games fine, aside from Far Cry. $400CDN is alot of cash to drop on a graphics card. On top of that, I was planning for a PCI-E upgrade. Then there's the power supply issues; I only have a 350W Enermax. It's very tempting, and I know Rollo is gonna tell me that I'm nuts for passing this one up.

Nothing wrong with enermax 350! Makes so called "true" 430's and 480's look weak. That baby can handle a lot with it's massive 26A 12V rail. My son uses that, a 5950 overclcoked, a wildly overclcoked mobile, two DVD drives and 3 hard drives w/o issue. PLus it's about four years old!!

I've had 2 Enermax 350's go bad on me. One was under warranty, and the warranty replacement went bad too. Both lasted nearly a year, and it was for the +5v rail problem. I had to put a pot in the second one to correct the level of the +5v rail, but it was never the same after that.

No Enermax for me EVER.

Yeah my 5v rail hovers around 4.8v under full load; I'm not sure if that's bad or not. The 12v rail is at 12.8v, and the 3.3v is at 3.4v. I've had two of these PSU's for over two years and have yet to experience a problem. The machine I'm running now has two hard drives, a highly overclocked mobile XP, an overclocked 9700PRO, and three optical drives. That's why I'm a little concerned about purchasing an NV40 at this point in time. Besides, the 9700 is actually still quite good, and I don't game all that much.

If I could easily mod the 6800 into a workstation GL card, I would jump on this deal in a heartbeat. Even if it were faster than my 9700 is as an X1 at stock settings I would buy it. I'm just not convinced that it is. I do more CAD than gaming at this point in time.

Man oh man, I saw this and just had to order one. Hope I can unlock the pipelines! Just got my 2001fp dell and need the power to run the 1600x1200 reso!

I have a truepower 480 atm, think that should power this card without any problems? I do have a full SCSI sysem so its a little bit of a power hog setup as it is.

Jason ~ previous posters have already stated that all pipes are already open.
its just an underclocked (core) ultra, plain and simple.

gluck with it

I'm still a bit concerned that with my luck I'd order one and get 12 pipes, that IS what all the specs I'm seeing say, but either way this is a good deal isn't it?

either way ~ yes its a great deal.

ultra memory (1.1ghz)
ultra cooler (2 slot)
ultra PCB
325mhz core (OCed to 350 should be a shoe-in)
all reports so far are showing 16 pipes. (bought from newegg)

I gave it a go.

Either way I can sell my 9700np and have a nice card for ~$200.

I couldn't resist and I just bought one!!!
I don't even play that many games now, and my 5900 runs 9/10 of my games fine at 1600x1200.
But this deal was too good to pass up

What specs? I haven't seen any info on this card except what's on newegg.

someone said earlier that all the pipelines were already unlocked, but the pdf says that it only has 12 pipelines. so now i'm thinkin that it can be clocked to near 6800UE speeds, just with 4 fewer pipelines.

Those specs (ie the same specs from newegg)

The card is literally an underclocked ultra. Evga seems to just be reselling the ones that failed to reach ultra levels after being made.

Got this from someone who had overclocked his, so just ignore the speeds. (thanks nVmatrix)

First: $0100000001 Hardwired ID : 0040 (ROM strapped to 0041)
0040 is Ultra, 0041 is Standard, 0042 is LE, and 0045 is GT. The core itself was binned as an Ultra, and is forced to be a standard. Im fairly certain they would check for bad pipes first before speed binning, so most of these should have all their pipes (although dont come to my door with a shotgun and a bodybag if Im wrong).

2. The bios shows ultra voltage levels (could be GT, didnt show perf levels for some reason, but moderately certain its ultra), and one who has overclocked cant get much over 400. Most GT's can get a fair deal above this, especially once the core voltage is increased to ultra levels.

3. Its using 1.6ns memory. XFX and Leadtech are both forced to lower memory speeds to 900 due to their shortages of better memory. No vendor in their right mind would pass up a chance to make another ultra instead of slapping a standard 6800 in it.

4. None have shown any bad pipes. This seems to go along with the idea that no one in their right mind would put a slightly defective chip in a card with hard to find memory.

Im not saying that they all have all their pipes, in fact Im fairly certain not all of these can reach much past GT speeds. Otherwise evga would have made GT limited editions. Chances are they underclocked a semi-defective ultra, and threw it in a box.

Again, dont shoot me if Im wrong.

Your OK on your +5v rail with a +4.8v min @load. Mine were dropping into the mid +4.6v to low +4.7v under load. If I tried to push a CPU with higher vcore to get a higher overclock, the +5v rail would fall on it's face. A motherboard with the AUX pwr connection would probably not be as suceptable to this problem I would guess.

My unit is on it's way, already in El Paso, Tx so should be at my door on Monday. Now I'm wondering, what bios will be appropriate for this card. Anyone care to chance a guess ? I noticed on the EVGA site that one has to enter a serial # in order to get a bios upgrade, guess we will see what group the LE cards are in when we do the upgrade bios request on site.

Man, this is tempting, everytime I look at the site, they are still available. Would'nt be so bad if they were shown as out of stock. I just got a $733 bill for home heating oil fill-up, otherwise it would be a done deal.

there are a lot left, at least more than 100. If you add 99 into the cart, it usually will reduce the number if they don't have that many. But it lets you add all 99, so it means they have 100+
