If you have anything below a 9700/5900, id jump on this deal right away!
You should sell your 9800 P for $150 and buy this. Twice as fast for $175 isn't bad.

There is another store that comes up in Froogle that carries it for approx the same price, so I don't think there will be a shortage of these.

Does anyone know how large a batch usually is? I would assume it's one bad batch they're trying to get rid of here but then again...I have absolutely no idea. Surely someone on this thread has the knowledge to clue me in. Do they test every batch? Etc, etc, etc.

just to cool you guys down:

this card takes up two slots and might NOT have 16 pipes opened.

Can't a real 6800GT be had for $350 or so if you shop around? Why not pay the extra $25 for a single slot, guaranteed 16 piped card?

Pfft.
1. The "real" 6800GT has 10% slower RAM
2. The "real" 6800GT has a cheaper cooling solution
3. Since when have gamers cared about the slot next to their AGP card?
4. Last I looked, one brand of 6800GT was $350 at one place, and that brand has a cheesy new cooling solution nobody seems to like. 6800GTs are $375 > at newegg I believe.

This card is the deal of the century. Although you are right that it may not have all 16 pipes, that would make it equivalent to the Asus V9999GE which splits the difference between a 6800NU and a GT, and with 10% faster RAM, this card would be even closer. Besides, has anyone actually gotten one that is 12 pipes?

I'm positive its a 16 pipe card. When I took off the HSF to instal my NV5 it even says ultra on the core.

I really don't think the pipes will be an issue here. Has anyone even had to enable the extra pipes? Mine were already enabled. I would guess the same for the rest and if not I would assume there would be no problem enabling them.

This card can easily achieve GT speeds with better and faster memory. I would place it somewhere between getting a GT and an Ultra. I'm very happy with my purchase.

What gets me is why would you build an Ultra if you knew they would not pass as an Ultra? I'm wondering if they flunked because the HS/fan was not put on correctly or maybe the ram (one or more chips) could not make the grade after final assembly?

People with these cards posts your overclocks....

And I don't want to hear one word from the overclocking is wrong crowd

How does this compare with the X800 Pro? Not wanting to start a flame war, just wanted info on the best bang for the buck in this price range. The Visiontek X800 Pro was 349.00.

it would be close to comparring a 6800GT to the X800pro.

LOL "sight overclock" the fool forgot evga could'nt get it to pass ultra muster so he runs it there anyway. a 20% OC is pretty big on video cards.

Folks I would be very careful overclocking these past GT levels. Keeping an eye on temps. Make sure it stays below 75C when loaded.

It's unfortunate this gentleman has opted to commit warranty fraud, a most disagreeable sort.

He OCs the core almost 30% and then say it's defective and trys for RMA.

Off goes Rollo, to warn newegg and EVGA. Hopefully the lout lists some personal info in his profile.

There, I helped Joshua be a better person if he used his real name in the forum. Sent this to newegg:
http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=110535

"On Wednesday, after reading some threads on this forum I had went out and ordered an Evga 6800 limited edition card, expecting a nice card for the price.

I received the card via Fedex Saver on Friday morning. I checked the card out and decided to overclock it slightly to 400 engine speed. Everything seemed fine at that time.

I played games on Friday and Saturday using my card. On Saturday night the screen started to flicker and then everything went black.

I am now today typing this message on my old video card which I had to put back in my system after this piece of crap evga limited died on me. I can understand it dieing if I went to a large overclock, but I only did a minor overclock to 400 mhz which isn't very high is it?

I can only think that this card just can't handle overclocking or you risk it burning out on you. Damn defective merchandise that evga is trying to peddle off on people.

I really hope that Newegg will give me my money back, I am going to try to get a GT card instead.

-- JoshuaM --"

Unfortunately this schmuck doesn't list anything in his profile about his address, but he seems pretty stupid, so "JoshuaM" might be his real name.
Anyway, if you have a "Joshua M" trying to return a EVGA 6800LE, I'd say you don't owe him one.
Good luck denying him, help keep our costs low!

Well, there would probably be some failures in the batch just because the cards are failures themselves. I doubt eVGA runs these cards for a long time before slapping the "LE" label over the "ULTRA".

They probably just run the basic stress test at the Ultra speeds and if it fails the do the 6800 test and just put it in the box.

Still, it looks like a good deal. Newegg specifically says they'll only replace this card, not refund.

They owe this loser nothing, which I'm hoping he'll get now that newegg is aware of his stupidity.

Never say they did.

Interesting that Newegg will only do exchanges on this one. They probably already know it's going to be popular.

I had posted about this on guru3d.com.

I was considering buying one of these cards myself, after reading the threads on this forum and the other forums. However, after thinking it over a few days, I come to a few conclusions.

This card isn't as good as a 6800 GT. The memory speed may be higher, but the fact that you can't raise the core speed beyond 400 without having serious problems with artifacts and corruption, means that you will never get this card up as fast as a GT.

A card running at 400/1200 memory will NOT be as fast as a card running at 420/1150 and many GTs can overclock to about that range. The extra memory speed only provides a fractional increase, while every 1 mhz in engine speed provides about 10 times the benefit. You can experiment with a 6800 (I own a 6800 NU) and try lowering the engine speed and see how it effects benchmarks, and try lowering the memory speed and try the same thing. You will see that in every case that for every 1 mhz lowered in engine speed it has a lot higher lost in performance then for every 1 mhz lost in memory speed. A card that is running at 420 mhz is a lot more powerful then a card running at 400 mhz. So if you really want the best overclocking card, then this limited evga card is not it, because of its limits on overclocking the engine speed.

Also since these cards have failed their quality testing, then there might be other problems in the cards that would tend to make them more risky for overclocking.

Sincerely,
Bitpower
