This sounds pretty final, fair or not. Is anybody going to try to push back on them for more? I ask because I've got one of these cards in RMA right now (they received it yesterday), and was vaguely holding out to see how far other people were able to push them in terms of getting good treatment. But if everybody is more or less done fighting eVGA, I'll just take this offer and get to playing some HL2. On the other hand, if you folks are still talking to them / considering lawsuits / whatever, I can hold out for a bit to see what happens.

As an aside - does anybody know what the story is on the copper cooler they're offering? Is it just a replacement for the heatsink portion, or is it a whole differnent cooling unit (like the Arctic Silencers)? Does it use a second card slot to exhaust hot air? The recirculation of hot exhaust air inside the case was one of my pet peeves with the GT design, so if this cooler makes it more like the Ultra, it's one more reason to take their offer.

Good luck to everybody, and keep us posted on your progress.

Thanks, Thugs for that replacement community link.

I might just go take up that eVGA's offer. 1 final test of mobo bios and drivers reinstall. Flash to stock. If all don't work, I am going for GT. I am sick of this crap.

? eVGA.com has set aside the 6800 GT and is allowing you to step-up to this card for only $25.00, this is better than ½ of what the normal step-up would normally cost you. In addition you will also receive the eVGA.com copper heat sink installed on y our GT card and an additional $50.00 eVGA.com bucks for the inconvenience.

well i caved im not really happy about it and dont know if il keep the card but i worked out a deal with JOE Darwin

6800 GT with copper heatsink installed, farcry, doom3, and $50 credit at evga.com for $25

i still will never buy from evga agian. they still will not admit they were failed ultras and i never got an apology.

my favorite spin: "they are plain 6800 8 pipe cards that have ULTRA pcb, memory, and cooler".
i asked why it says 6800 ultra on the core, "you must be misinformed" where is a tape recorder when u need it.

i kinda feel bad for the workers its prob just some greedy boss telling them what to do

This was posted in one of my threads in another forum. This is not my advice

If i'm not mistaken, you can file a complaint with the FTC, what they are doing is illegal, they have to replace or repair the card, if they can't do that then they are to eat the cost and replace it with one that is equal to or better than what you have. This in marketing terms is called bait and switch, even if it is still a warranty product. File a complaint with the FTC they like these types of things and at the same time puts the company on notice.

Did you have to personally work it out with Joe Darwin and email him? Or is the above standard deal if you have a bad 6800 LE for $25?

that eVGA $50 credit only works for future purchases right?

"plain 6800 with 8 pipes" ???? they clearly all say it is 16 pipes~!

Joe Darwin also stated that if i dont like the options that are giving me he could just refund my money because thats part of the warrenty almost like a threat after i brought up the repair or replace at no cost.

can anyone confirm or deny refund is in warrenty?

also does anyone have the email saying it was a 6800 Ultra that didnt pass QC?

Didn't the original product discription state 12 pipes - I believe the newegg details did - and then we found them to have all 16 when we started receiving them?

I seem to remember an E-VGA PDF file that said the LE had 12 Pixel Piplines. 325/1100. My card's serial number ends in 24x. It runs great at 425/1200. I have managed to run it at 436/1200 but it will not do 437/1200.

I even upgraded my mobo this week to the top end ASUS board. reformated, and tried OCing again, I got exactly the same results. I could not go above 436 in Coolbits. I can of course go higher with expertool, but i get the blue screen of death when doing benchmarks. BTW, I have tried no less than 6 different bioses, and I still cannot go over 436. _i'm not complaining, but I find it Very strange when some people can go over 470 and some can't even run 400!! WTF. We all knew that the LE's were a bit odd, but from what I can tell, there aren't more than maybe 600 LE"s out there and every single one runs differently.----and not a single one of them came with only 12 pixel pipes like they advertised!!!!!!!! If you want to complain to eVGA about anything, you got them there. I wish you guys the best. Don't give up.....

I can garantee you, eVGA is sorry that they ever released this card. I wonder if this was a ploy to garner attention for the true "LE"? or maybe to steer people to eVGA thru free web advertising via user/enthusiast forums like this one?

I for one say "Thank you" to eVGA for giving me a 6800Ultra for under $350 , though I had to up-grade to WinXP and re-format my drive because of icompatabilities with snd card drivers and pisz-poor Win98 drivers (nVidia's fault).

I for one am fairly happy I got one, though these cards are far more finicky than any card I think any of us have run across. Maybe that is really why they did'nt make "the grade" makes you wonder.

This card seems to run worse than my GeForce Ti4200.

Now I am lost...

1. RMA to ZZF
2. eVGA $25 to GT
3. Demand full refund from eVGA.

Just get the GT as there would be still no better deal even though it would be a downgrade from what you had unless you do not need a nice card right now.

I beleive your problem is computer related thou as it worked at first then it starting artifacting then you installed new board drivers and it worked or something like that right.

I would do a total format and fresh install before I gave up the card. Maybe get a RMA number but before you send it do the format just to see as it sure won't hurt any other than the time.

If you can get the deal someone else got of of a GT, Far Cry, Doom3, and $50 credit @ eVGA. Do that. Then, sell both games for $25 a pop. Gives you $50, $50 in credit, and a GT. Use that $100 to step your GT up to and utlra. $25 more for a true ultra is a daaaamn good deal.

Racefan, I don't think it is computer related. I reinstalled my mobo drivers. It artifacts at 325/1100. But if I reduced it till 325/800, no artifacts. But as a whole, it feels way slow for a 256MB card running at 325/800. Something's definitely wrong with the parts.

Viper87227, yah, that might be a good deal. Problem is I already have and played Far Cry and Doom3 before. So that deal isn't something too fantastic for me.

This is odd, i have horrible luck with coolbits. apparently my card won't pass its "test" even at 400x1100. despite this i installed powerstrip and i can get 470x1350 perfectly, but after about 3 hours of gaming the card builds up a lot of heat and i get minor artifacting. i had to throttle back to 465x1350, eitherway i'm still very happy.

hey whack,

I get a similar problem, after using the 1.4 Ultra bios, I cant seem to oc with coolbits, I cant even downlclock to 325/1100, still wont pass test.

Yet with the stock bios I made it up to 415/1100!

I will give powerstrip a try.

I flashed my Limited Edition to 400/1100 BIOS by THUGS, then overclocked some more to 425/1100
i got a high score on the 3dmark05, 5734 is what i got. but after the testings i started playing games like doom3... sucked.. it freezes.. sometimes it unlocks from it but sometime it causes me to restart.. now im runnin 350/1100.. seems stable but the low FPS really bugs me.. in CS:S im getting 38-59 only indoor 70-100... never reaches over 100fps i wonder why.. its like in almost everygame i play
even in cs 1.6 i only get 79 stable fps

Exactly my point. Get em, sell em, and put em towards an Ultra.

Yes, a good deal, but you cannot use your evga Credits on the step up program. Otherwise that would be nice, but it wouldnt work.
