A friend of mine told me a few days ago that he bought and Xbox360. Using giftcards, he paid for half. He had his mother/grandmother (i think) pay for the other half as a Christmas present. So then he tells me it's ready for pickup at Bestbuy, and i'm like "awesome". Then he follows that up by saying he can't wait till Christmas, and I'm like yeah, xmas is always great. I began to ponder why he followed up with that though. So I asked "when are you going to pick up the 360?" And he says he's not going to pick it up, his Mother is, and she's going to give it to him as a Christmas gift. When the day comes, she will then wrap it and present it as...well a present, under the tree. So I'm thinking wow...really? Then I asked him so you're not going to really get it until Christmas? He says, "Yeah".
So I started asking him why he was going to wait till Christmas to open a gift he won't be surprised to see, and which he paid for half of. He's like "I dunno, just the way we do things". He said he might even pick it up himself later if his mother couldn't do it (he can drive, he's 21). So he's going to pick it up and it's just going to sit in a closet somewhere for a month? Maybe lots of families do that kind of stuff? It just seems real odd to me, and it kinda aggravates me.
Yes, of course I want to play it and that's why I'm kind of TO'd about it, we really don't have any other games to play right now. He even bought controllers for me and my bro so we could play with him when we go over, which was a real nice thing to do. I'm not dying to play it ASAP or I would of bought one a long time ago, I can wait till Xmas easily, that's not what bothers me. I just think it'd be a fun to play. So it is kind of selfish of me, but it seems like kind of a crazy thing to do. He's been really wanting one for months now too, why not just go pick it up and play now?
Another thing, his birthday is in a week or so, so it seemed like he could of just got this as a Birthday Present if he wanted to get it sooner.
And, Also, another weird thing is he's been waiting for a good price on it, I've been helping him out with that in showing him deals. I mentioned the Amazon deal on black friday (or cyber monday maybe) that will sell the 360 for $100. Instead, he decides to buy it retail from Bestbuy so he could get an additional 20% off accessories...big whoop. He also bought two games (Saint's Row/Call of Duty 3) after I've showed him that everyone thinks Gears of War is awesome.
I'm curious to see other's thoughts on this.
