Ehh, does this seem weird to anyone else?

A friend of mine told me a few days ago that he bought and Xbox360. Using giftcards, he paid for half. He had his mother/grandmother (i think) pay for the other half as a Christmas present. So then he tells me it's ready for pickup at Bestbuy, and i'm like "awesome". Then he follows that up by saying he can't wait till Christmas, and I'm like yeah, xmas is always great. I began to ponder why he followed up with that though. So I asked "when are you going to pick up the 360?" And he says he's not going to pick it up, his Mother is, and she's going to give it to him as a Christmas gift. When the day comes, she will then wrap it and present it as...well a present, under the tree. So I'm thinking wow...really? Then I asked him so you're not going to really get it until Christmas? He says, "Yeah".

So I started asking him why he was going to wait till Christmas to open a gift he won't be surprised to see, and which he paid for half of. He's like "I dunno, just the way we do things". He said he might even pick it up himself later if his mother couldn't do it (he can drive, he's 21). So he's going to pick it up and it's just going to sit in a closet somewhere for a month? Maybe lots of families do that kind of stuff? It just seems real odd to me, and it kinda aggravates me.

Yes, of course I want to play it and that's why I'm kind of TO'd about it, we really don't have any other games to play right now. He even bought controllers for me and my bro so we could play with him when we go over, which was a real nice thing to do. I'm not dying to play it ASAP or I would of bought one a long time ago, I can wait till Xmas easily, that's not what bothers me. I just think it'd be a fun to play. So it is kind of selfish of me, but it seems like kind of a crazy thing to do. He's been really wanting one for months now too, why not just go pick it up and play now?

Another thing, his birthday is in a week or so, so it seemed like he could of just got this as a Birthday Present if he wanted to get it sooner.

And, Also, another weird thing is he's been waiting for a good price on it, I've been helping him out with that in showing him deals. I mentioned the Amazon deal on black friday (or cyber monday maybe) that will sell the 360 for $100. Instead, he decides to buy it retail from Bestbuy so he could get an additional 20% off accessories...big whoop. He also bought two games (Saint's Row/Call of Duty 3) after I've showed him that everyone thinks Gears of War is awesome.

I'm curious to see other's thoughts on this.

Rob his house and steal it from the closet.

You get to play with it right away, he wont miss it for 5 weeks. Its a win-win.

You're ticked off because you have to wait a month to mooch off of your friend? Worst rant ever.

Really, shut up - Doesn't even look like you read the whole OP. And he's been playing our systems for years now at our house, which I have no problem with. I'm not trying to mooch off of him, we have most consoles where I live.

Replies thus far have been awful (my opinion, anyone else agree?). Someone please post an opinion about the subject of the story. It's not a rant, I'm just asking a question. I'm not angry, though I'm getting angry these replies are so bad (again, my opinion). I really don't see anything harmful in the OP.

I did but your whining is the only part I understood.

Cliffs:

1. Friend buys X360 with grandma
2. They wrap it up for Christmas
3. You bitch about not being able to play it
4. More bitching
5. Some whining about how he spends his money

What part about that is wrong?

Your a god damn moron, that's what's wrong. Just like all the other idiots who call everyone else whiners/bitchers in every thread about anything. Now you've made this into an argument thread when there shouldn't of even been anything to argue about. I just can't believe how stupid you are.

Ok, fine, I'll answer your questions.

Yes, some families do indeed do that, fuckhead. Why else would they let it just "sit in a closet"? Because it's some part of a conspiracy to prevent you from using your friends property?

Because his superiors paid for half of it and it's their rules, dumbass.

Buy your own! He isn't as selfish as you. He has the patience to wait for Christmas.
Pick up a book or two in the meantime.

My mom had me do something similar once, I believe for a computer I helped buy. My parents were really big on the waiting aspect... and now that I'm older I think I probably agree with them - waiting for something that you know you'll really love builds discipline and character. Immediate gratification from everything that you want probably only teaches you to satisfy your appetites whether or not they are immediately or in the long-term in your interests.

Yeah that is weird... I can't believe how stupid he is being.

You should take those controllers he bought for you and throw them at his head for being so selfish.

To ease the pain of having to wait to play his friend's Christmas present I suggest the OP go into the mountains, bury himself in the snow and cryogenically freeze himself for the next five weeks. Then, on Christmas day, he can have his friend revive him.

Make sure you avoid avalanche zones.
