I don't see anything strange about this approach. I have been buying my own Christmas gifts from my parents for a few years. I pick out the gift, buy it, give the gift to them to wrap for Christmas and they give me what the normally spend for Christmas. Last year I got a LCD monitor. They offered to give me the monitor right away but I said I could wait until Christmas day. BTW, I'm 39 years young.

So nothing new to me about your story other then your whining. Or maybe its not new.

My family might do similar sorts of things, but if I get Christmas presents early, that means less stuff to get on Christmas. Since I'm not the sentimental sort, I really don't care when the gifts come. And Christmas at my house is rarely about surprises. No one knows what to get anyone else, so for awhile we would just tell each other the things we wanted. Now though, Christmas has kind of lost that too. It's just kind of a day to either lounge around the house, get some work done, or visit relatives.
