EIGHT IDE drives with the Gigabyte 7N400 Pro??

I am really confused about the "IDE: 4x UDMA ATA 133/100/66 Max" listing for this board I keep seeing.
Is this really 8 independent IDE Controller Ports that I could have 2 drives on each cable?
or does it have something to do with RAID?

I do not want to overclock, and I do not want to use RAID.
But I am using this for an audio recording machine where it is good to have THREE drives (1 for OS/APPS, 1 for Recording Audio, 1 for Samplers). If this means I could have all three on independent channels out of the box without buying an extra IDE Promise Controller Card, that seems like a great feature.

I am trying to decide between this Gigabyte 7N400 Pro and the Asus A7N8X Deluxe

Yes you could have 8 drives+ the sata.
However there are some points of intrest you shoud consider, especially if its about audio, you need to digest the following information.

Now to me that didnt matter, I also had no intention of using the raid, really just wanted to hang lots of drives so that worked for me.

Im not into pro audio recording, so again no problem for me.

And just to correct there are a total of 4 Ide, 2 normal, and 2 for raid, which in bios you can run as raid setup or just regular ata devices.

Board runs nicely at 200 fsb with adequate psu and ram

Ugh, well that all sounds terrible for me. Thanks for the heads up, possibly I should just go with the Asus board and get a Promise Card for the extra drive channel. *sigh*
