This patch was made by an ATI employee for the game... of course it's a no go on Nvidia hardware. You guys already got your "Nvidia" patch when the game was released.

Pretty playale at 1920x1200, HDR+ 4xAA, 16xHQ AF. Foliage drops the frames pretty far, all other areas are pretty smooth. I suspect 2xAA in Foliage would be smooth enough, at 4x, its not enough for me. Ive also got all the image quality enhancements increased thru the game's .ini. So that puts a pretty large hit on frames too.

Opty@2.6, 2x1900XT's Crossfire, A8R32-MVP.

Are there any benefits for X800 or earlier generation cards? It doesn't appear so but if anyone decides to test it, let me know.

Done some quick benchmarking (specs below). Taken from a fairly complex outside scene with plenty of objects and grass etc. Settings were 1280x1024 with HDR and everything in the Video options menu maxed. AF set to 8x.

no AA = 30fps
2x AA = 27fps
4x AA = 26fps
6x AA = 24fps

any suggestions?

Really weird.. Installed the patch forced 4xAA in CCC and voila..
Dunno are you sure you're doing everything right?

OMG Oblivion with HDR+AA

Sandy 3700+ @ 2750, 1900XT @ 700/800, 4xAA, 16xHQAF, 16x12. Max details w/o grass, minimal shadows, 9 grids. Quite playable. Forests chug down to the 25 range, cityscapes like the Waterfront hurt. But it's gorgeous.

First time I fired up the game with the forced AA it didn't take, but it did after exit + restart. Odd.

Anyone tried enabling 'Adaptive AA'? It looks superb, it applies AA to alpha textures like those used in the grass and trees, and stops the shimmering effect you see with distant trees. Trouble is with 6xAA plus Adaptive AA I get 13fps...really need a Crossfire system for that.

How come you sold your GTX?

Because the XTX is better?

So was it just to save money or you were unhappy with dual cards?

What does that mean

NVIDIA released a new beta ForceWare 84.25 when Oblivion was released which increase performance and added an SLI profile. I assume that this is what is being referred to.

Let's keep this thread on topic. If you want to talk about this more, let's take it to the thread I linked to.

Kinda makes you wonder what the motivation was behind this statement, and why they didnt include HDR+AA for ATi cards in the game.

Originally posted by: Oblivion Dev's
On PC, HDR and AA are not supported simultaneously at all, on any video chipset, because of the way we do HDR.

If you absolutely need antialiasing (and the HDR effect looks great without it, frankly), you can switch to the bloom effect.

They suggest you use a NV card to play Oblivion after installing, and its an NV stamped game. The game obviously runs better on ATi hardware, and now thanks to this patch, looks better too. Things that make you go "hmmm"

i dunno.. it's weird. enabling 4xAAA certainly affects framerate - drops it about 8fps with AAA engabled as you can see in the screenshots, however visually it doesn't have an impact. possible AA is only applied to certain things (tho that wouldn't make sense to me).

HDR, No AA, 16xHQAF

HDR, 4xAAA, 16xHQAF

CCC Settngs

Catalyst Version

not sure what else i can try.. reinstall the patch and reboot perhaps?

Yep my thoughts exactly. Seems like TWIMTBP filled up Bethesda's coffers nicely.

Since this is an application specific "tweak" you MUST have AI enabled. AI is there for a reason, to let you disable any application tweaks, and that includes oblivion

Why do you have it disabled, any problems with it ?

Yeah why would you turn that off? At standard you do not lose any image quality with it on.

I just installed the patch, and it works nicely, but I have a question: is this just a patch to an existing driver, or is this a new driver altogether? I'm asking, because I didn't uninstall the old drivers before installing this patch, and I'm curious if I should have...

It's a new driver, I uninstalled my 6.3 display driver and then installed this one; I kept the CCC + WDM installs from the 6.3 install though.

This is so damn nice, I hope this makes it into future WHQL Cats and doesn't remain a "proof of concept". 'Tis a fine day to be an X1900 owner.
