I dont care about $15-20, it's the starting from the beginning again that kills it.

Look on the bright side. You can finally do all the "oh man, i should've done this before"s right this time around

That's why I have 140~ save games.

Save 431 - Jah'Rel - Fort Teleman Order of the Black Rose, Level 17, Playing Time 51.18.04.ess

A Real Man only needs one save

not for this buggy game . . .

i have well over 300 saves in just over 50 hours . . . and have had to go back more than once [i don't have any "shoulda done this rights the 1st time" - not bad for my first real Fantasy RPG]

and still level 7
[but mowing thru my enemies like grass . . . i am tempted to set the slider to more difficult]

anyway, i don't think there is hope for my x850xt and HDR + Bloom + AA. . . even if it is faster then the x1600 which can do it . . . i am satisfied to play it without HDR and 2xAA is ok for performance at 10x7 or 11x8 [with everything on and most everything else med/max except shadows].

Awesome game play and beaurtiful graphics

The AA + HDR screenshots look very nice.

I wonder how the nVidia trolls are going to get around this one? This is a high profile, new release TWIMTBP title and ATi is coming out on top again with performance and image quality.

This isn't the first time this has happened either.

They'll use the dustbuster and high power consumption rebuke. They'll only put up with those if it's an NV card that's doing it.

*waits for one of them to shout "HDR is crap, and HDR + AA is too slow to use it anyway so having it even as an option is a stupid idea, HDR looks overbright and unrealistic, bloom is just as good, I like it better without AA anyway, and... and... the X1900 has higher power consumption and is louder! So there!"

I love this forum.

Oh I'm sure they'll chime in with some lame excuse as usual. Maybe something like, "So what, I'd rather have nVidia's SLI 7900 GT with low power consumption" ROFL!

Now now fellas, settle down.

No need to rub salt in the wounds.

This is pretty sweet though. I'm not a big HDR or AA guy myself, but when I upgrade to something more robust in the future I may change my tune.

I do agree it is kind of suspicious that its an nvidia stamped game when its clear it performs better on ATI hardware, does sort of smell like some one though some cash their way to "even the playing field". But this wouldn't be the first title that was endorsed by the company whose parts aren't ideal for it would it?

Holy CRAP!!!!

Just installed my 1900XTX yesterday... same day as I discovered the Chuck Patch... good god, this is better than sex! I didn't think there was a card out there that could bring Oblivion to it's knees... until now. I haven't even OC'd it yet!

I've been a lifelong Nvidia fan but after this, Nvidia can suck it. I almost bought a 7900GTX too... I'm glad I went with ATI.

I don't know who Chuck is but I'm buying him a beer! AA + HDR + 30FPS with beyond-max settings = heaven on earth.

Can't say it's better than sex but I agree with the rest!

Even at 1920x1200, HDR, 8xHQAF, 2xAA, I still get playable FPS. Everthing looks so crisp and fluid. Thanks Chuck and Ati and a big FU to that Oblivion Dev talking about how "impossible" it is to have HDR+AA running on a PC.

I used to be an Nvidia Owner to, and only the fanboys are going to make the poor HDR excuse. The rest will be jealous, I was.

I've decided, now having experienced both companies, that ATI is F'n' A and kicks Nvidias nut sack with steel toes. Shader Model 3.0 done right.

This is really the first generation of computer gaming I've done, since last September anyway. Has ATI always owned Nvidia like this? I've heard that they were better forever but I didn't really know why. Plus, I knew that Nvidia started concepts that ATI picked up on (e.g. dual GPU setup). But even with that benefit that Nvidia brags about--it is more mature than Xfire afterall--it still wouldn't give you this major option that makes the game tremendously better. Even if you got the stupid Quad SLI 7900GTX from Alienware with the 32X AA you still couldn't have this awesome feature. Isn't that just...stupid?

QFT. I'm glad people are finally realizing that nVidia is like Sony and is riding the PR hype machine. ATi has a better product on the market and it's word of mouth from consumers like us that will help others pick the better card (x1900), not one nV fanboys or nV's PR machine forces down our throats.

I don't think ATI has always owned Nvidia. Actually, the opposite seems to have been the case this past year or so. Seemed like every time ATI released the latest and greatest, Nvidia had an answer lying in wait that usually edged out the ATI release. Nvidia pretty much dominated when the 7800GTX came out; then ATI answered back with the X1800XT or whatever it was... seemed neck-and-neck, sometimes better... then seemingly out of nowhere, Nvidia unleased the 7800GTX 512 which just creamed ATI. ATI's lead, if you can call it that, lasted about three days.

Now we have another factor here... Oblivion and it's odd quirk of not allowing HDR + AA. This basically invalidated ATI's advantage, as Nvidia cards aren't capable of this anyway as far as I know. That fact that the Chuck patch now gives ATI back that edge, changes the balance considerably, especially since Oblivion is the hot ticket right now. WIthout that benefit, ATI wouldn't be stomping Nvidia so royally right now. Not to mention... the 1900XTX and 7900GTX are equal competitors but the 1900 seems universally cheaper. I think ATI is enjoying an undisputed advantage now, for the first time in a while, largely due to HDR+AA now being possible on the biggest game at the moment.

As far as multi-GPU setups, I don't have any experience with that, except that Nvidia has been doing it longer AND has a simpler setup. Unlike ATI, you don't need diff. versions of the same card to go dual. ATI needs a Crossfire Ready card and a Crossfire Edition card; with SLI you just take two of whatever-type-of-card you like and put them together.

Of course... the proceeding is my humble opinion... coming from a former Nvidia fan.

I'll give a big FU to that Oblivion Dev who about six months ago said the Xbox360 version would have more features than the PC version and the only way to get those features would be to dump your PC and buy a Suxbox.

I think the holding back of features was due more to M$ wanting to pump the 360, moreso than Nvidia's doing. However, doing this would certainly benefit Nvidia, so I wouldn't rule that out either.

whoever says HDR looks like crap is legally blind. IT's absolutely stunning.

This is by far the best looking game released so far, FEAR was nothing.

So what we have is the Oblivion devs publicly telling us that HDR+AA cannot be done, on any video chipset. While the game is a NV supported TWIMTBP stamped game. Then they suggest to all who install the game, that they recommend NV for the best expierence.

Now that benches come out, its obvious that ATi's latest cards run the game better, and with HDR+AA, despite them saying it cant be done. Sure looks like they were just lying their butts off, and thats pretty pathetic. Of course, that is just my opinion, with the evidence in front of me.

I too do not agree with this. In some games, I dont like how HDR looks all the time. In Farcry, I dont like it most of the time, makes it look too fake, or shiny. I do like how when you come out of a cave or building to the light, your eyes "adjust" though. in Oblivion, I think it looks great. But thats not the case for everygame, imo.

LOL, youre the PR machine for Red... no better than the green boys...

Nvidia is like sony? I dont even see the correlation.

Hands down the X1900 will be the fastest product for shader heavy titles.

For once we agree on something ackmed its the artist that comes down to it. It looks great on some titles and awful on others.

Haaw man, I'm proper envious.
Wish my SLI set up could do AA+HDR!

Hmm...perhaps I might consider a switch to Crossfire X1900 XL if the price is right.
But I just think value for money and performance wise the 7900 GT is unbeatable.
Because on monday, my two 7900 GT's will pretty much be two 7900 GTX's (and more) for half the price.

New video I made with my X1900XTX using HDR+2xAA/2x Temporal AA + 8xHQ AF. Warning it has major spoilers so don't watch it if you don't want to know what happens at the end of the Oblivion Gates quest: X1900 XTX HDR 2xAA/2xTAA + 8xHQ AF

I'm averaging 30-35 fps using HDR+AA at 1680x1050 with all settings maxed except grass shadows and self shadows. Indoors my fps never drops below 50+ fps.
